How We Met: The story of how we met goes years before either one of us were even born! Michael’s mom introduced my parents, and our parents were all friends for many years. Michael and I had met as children, but we were too young to have any memories from these times. My parents had even held Michael in their arms when he was born. As life happens and people start their own lives and families, our parents had lost contact with one another for some time. When I was 18 years old, my mom got back in contact with his mom through Facebook. They decided to meet in person and catch up. My mom then saw Michael and instantly thought we’d make a cute couple. I’ll never forget it. She came home and immediately began bugging me about friend requesting him on Facebook and I thought that was extremely odd. Luckily, I listened to the wise words of my mother. I friend requested him. He almost immediately accepted my request and we began talking. We chatted online for a few weeks, and then he and his family came to my house for my high school graduation party over six years ago. I was so nervous to meet him in person! He walked through the door and I remember family members and friends thinking it was so cute when we hugged for the first time. The day after my graduation party, he asked me out on a date and the rest is history!
how they asked: Michael and I were in Holden Beach, NC on vacation. He asked me to go to the beach to take photos together on the most perfect Thursday evening imaginable. I didn’t question him, because I love taking pictures and he knew I would never turn this moment down! After we had taken a few photos together, he said he wanted to set up the camera on our tripod. I ran to see if he could see me in the frame. He said he could see me, but also saw that there was a bottle dug in the sand. I picked it up and tossed it quickly out of the way thinking it was someone else’s trash. Michael came up to me and asked me what I had just tossed. I was so oblivious that I did not even notice how pretty the bottle was. There was a cork in the top and a scroll inside. He asked if we should open it. I was hesitant about opening the bottle just in case it had belonged to someone else, but I was also curious, so I took the letter out. I began reading the letter out loud to him and started trembling. It was a love letter addressed to “my one true love”. As I kept reading on, I started breathing heavier and heavier. The last line stated, “so with that being said, I have one question for you…” I couldn’t read this line without crying. This was my own message in a bottle proposal. Michael then got down on one knee and I completely lost it. The love of my life had just asked me to marry him and I couldn’t have been more ecstatic to say YES!
