How We Met
Matt and I met Memorial Day weekend of 2014 in Ocean City, MD. One night while out with hometown friends, I met Matt, this guy from New York with whom I shared a lot of mutual friends from Salisbury University. Matt and I chatted the entire evening, walked home together, exchanged numbers, and went on our way. I never thought I would hear from him again. Over the course of the year, he and I briefly communicated via social media and text. The following April, his birthday, he said I should come visit him in NY. I packed a bag, grabbed a friend, and I was on my way.
We had a great time visiting NYC, meeting his family, and seeing his hometown. I really thought there was something special. A month later, he made his first visit to Maryland to visit me. I took him to his first country concert, Florida Georgia Line. He now LOVES country music by the way ;) Later that month, we met back up started for Memorial Day weekend in Ocean City. He had a place with his friends, and I had a place with mine. Needless to say, we were inseparable and stayed with each other for the whole weekend. We said our goodbyes and went back to our hometowns. Two months later, we decided to take another trip to Ocean City for the 4th of July, this time staying with each other. July 04, 2015, Matt officially asked me to be his girlfriend.
How They Asked
Fast forward, 5 years, these two long-distance lovebirds are still happily together. This July, Matt and I wanted to go back to Ocean City for our 5-year anniversary and to spend the week with my best friend Alexis. Alexis and I always enjoy catching the sunset, so on the night of July 4th, 2020 (our 5-year anniversary) Matt, Alexis, and I drove around looking for a spot to catch the sunset.
We parked, started walking, and Alexis disappeared. Odd I thought. I started to suspect something. While I was capturing a picture of the sunset with two Blue Herons flying, Matt got down on one knee and asked me to be his forever in the place where it all began. To my surprise, Alexis, my other best friend Moriah, and her boyfriend, Ryan, were there to witness the whole thing and helped planned this special proposal.
