How We Met
My fiancé and I met at a church summer camp ten years ago. We became best friends, but he lived 3 hours away from me. From then on, we have had a long-distance friendship that blossomed into a long-distance relationship. We have been in a relationship for three years and counting!
How They Asked
He took me to the botanical gardens in Norfolk, Virginia to take pictures. I was under the impression that these were birthday pictures because our birthday is a week apart, and we were not able to be together on either of our birthdays because of the long distance. We walked around for about half an hour and took pictures and videos along the way, so I really didn’t suspect a thing. Once we got to the pink flower flamingos, I felt the atmosphere was different and I began to feel a bit overwhelmed and I told him it was because everything was so beautiful and I was happy to be in such a beautiful place with the person I love the most. As we began to take pictures by the flamingos, he started whispering into my ear all the things he loves about me and all the promises he wants to keep such as building a life with me, having a family, etc. I instantly just Began to cry (I’m not even an emotional person like that). He then got down on one knee, and I began to literally bawl and cover my face because I had no idea what was going on. He asked me to marry him, and I nearly lost it! I couldn’t even look at the ring because it was so overwhelming. He had found a ring that was EXACTLY like I described. I couldn’t have asked for a better moment than that in my entire life!
