How We Met

Brian and I grew up in the same town and became friends in middle school. We hung out in the same circle of friends through high school and eventually started dating our junior year. We went to college in different states and I even moved to Virginia for two years for grad school but we stayed together through it all. In June we celebrated our 10 year anniversary!

how they asked

It was a beautiful Saturday afternoon and during a long walk through some trails around our neighborhood, Brian casually suggested we go to dinner in the city to enjoy one of the last nights of summer. A work client had “given him a gift card” to a restaurant in Boston we’d never been to before. We had such a busy summer and I thought we could just stay in and relax that night, but throughout the course of the day, Brian insisted that we go to dinner. Even though I wasn’t totally sold on the idea, I eventually agreed to go.

After taking my sweet time to get ready, we drove in to the city around 6:30pm. As we walked along the harbor at Fan Pier Park on our way to dinner, the sun was just setting behind the gorgeous Boston skyline. After taking a few amazing photos of my favorite view of the city, Brian whispered, “we’ll sure remember these pictures forever,” and before I could respond he was down on one knee asking me to be his, forever.

A few minutes later I was even more shocked to meet the photographer that was standing by the whole time. It wasn’t until later that night that I learned of his elaborate plan.

The gift card was actually fake and just a ploy to get me to that perfect spot to capture the perfect picture he knew I would love.

And having known me for ten years, he knew I would ask about the gift card so he even went so far as to create a fake gift card, just in case I asked where it was….and sure enough I did! Even though he didn’t have a real gift card, he did have a reservation, a private table outside by the water, and a bottle of champagne waiting for us. Little did I know that he had a set timeline for our day and night. Fortunately I didn’t delay us too long and we were able to get there just in time. I will forever remember that moment and the pictures to go along with it are priceless. Thank God we didn’t stay home that night!
