Brittany and Brandon
How We Met
Brandon and I met when we were 8 years old. We were in the same third grade class and I thought Brandon was super cute. He still doesn’t even remember being in the same class though. Our moms were friends, so naturally throughout the years we would hang out and we became close friends. Fast forward and now we are 12-year-old seventh graders. I still thought Brandon was super cute, but this time the feelings were mutual. One day, when we were changing classes, Brandon asked if I would “go out” with him and I said “sure”. (I didn’t want to seem to eager. I had to play it cool.) After a year of dating, which in the seventh grade it was basically passing notes, hugs, and sitting together at lunch, summer came and I was headed to a different school.
I didn’t want a boyfriend when I was starting somewhere new, so I broke Brandon’s heart in an email. And to this day he won’t let me live that down…
A few more years passed and at 15 years old we both happened to be in a movie theater lobby at the same time. I didn’t see Brandon, but he saw me and yelled my name across the lobby. He ran up to me and gave me the biggest hug I think I have ever had. We talked for a little bit, then both went on our way. I sent him a text later that night and we began talking again like nothing had ever changed. The fair was in town and he had a homecoming dance coming up at his school. After being his date to both of those, he made it official and asked me to be his girlfriend. That was almost eight years ago now, but I honestly love him more and more each day.
how they asked
It might sound crazy, but I think I always knew I would marry Brandon. We talked about it all the time and knew it was going to happen sooner or later, but he still made the proposal a complete surprise for me.
It was a normal Sunday for us, Brandon picked me up for church, we had lunch, and ran a couple of errands. He orchestrated this story that we were taking pictures that evening with his family because his brother and sister just graduated high school. So I stayed in my dress from church and did my hair instead of changing into my normal Sunday attire of sweats and tshirt.
Brandon and I headed to downtown to The Battery to meet the photographer. He said the photographer was a family friend, so I didn’t think anything of it when she introduced herself. She was actually a photographer whose page I follow on Instagram and really like, but I didn’t recognize her.
Everyone else was running late (or so I thought) so we took a few shots to “test the lighting”. While taking the pictures Brandon got down on one knee and asked me the question I’d knew I would say yes to since I was 15 years old. Brandon had also planned a special engagement session following the proposal, so we got to stroll through Downtown Charleston just enjoying this moment together. To end the night he had one more surprise in store, we met up with our family and friends at a restaurant to finish celebrating with everyone. It was the most perfect night and I can not wait to marry my best friend.
