How They Asked
My partner and I (from Australia) were holidaying over December/January period in America with our two good friends and spent Christmas in New York City as it is one of our favorite places in the world. His mum rang us a few days before saying that she bought us VIP skating passes (the 10:30 pm-12 am) for the Rockefeller Ice Rink in NYC on Christmas Eve. We were both so excited about the gift (little did I know she had nothing to do with it) and headed on Christmas Eve to Rockefeller we walked around the big tree and came to the rink in a separate entrance with only around 30 other people, they offered us hot drinks and fun little gifts as part of the VIP experience, we got on the ice and the hour and a half session flew past, and soon enough it was midnight and we were all wishing each other a Merry Christmas and getting off the ice.
Though Sam, my partner, was hesitant to get off the ice while everyone was leaving and said he hurt his knee. He then moved us over more to the middle while everyone was getting off so we were the only ones to be on the ice (along with our two friends). Still completely unaware of what was happening, he began to share beautiful words with me about our relationship and before I knew it he got down on his knee, (in ice-skates!) pulled out my great grandmothers ring box with a ring he picked out for me (a completely perfect ring might I add) and I sobbed like a baby the whole time.
Our closest friends were on the ice taking photos and videos for us and when we kissed (after I said hell yes) the thousands of people watching erupted in cheers. We then ran to the Empire State Building (filled with giddy excitement) at 1 am to get photos on the top of the city. I don’t think we’ll be able to top that Christmas Eve/ Christmas Day midnight again.
