Brielle and Matt
How We Met
He went on a date with one of my best friends, and a few days later, he met up with a group of us at a local festival. We had a great conversation that night. He was charming, interesting and different. It was love at first sight (for me), but he didn’t know it yet. At the end of the night, we (my best friend, another friend and I), didn’t have a ride home so we convinced him to drive us. I remember hoping that he would come back and leave a note with his number or throw a rock at my window and profess his love for me…since he now knew where I lived.
Finally, I get a message from him on Facebook the next day. He said he enjoyed our conversation, got my friend’s blessing, and asked me out to dinner! Romeo of the 21st Century? I said no. I was anti-men and anti formal dinner dates where you have to get dolled up and make awkward conversation while trying to look good while eating. Not me. So we met at the park where he works and I showed up sweaty and with no makeup after a workout at the gym. We sat there talking until dark, and have been inseparable ever since.
how they asked
Yoga. Run. Party. We signed up for the Sea wheeze Half Marathon in Vancouver. We (or should I say I) planned an epic week. First we flew into Seattle to do some sight seeing, took a ferry to Vancouver Island to do a whale watching tour because it has been a lifelong dream of mine to see a whale in the wild! We didn’t see any whales, in case you were wondering. Then from there we were off to Vancouver. The most beautiful city I have ever seen.
We were having the most amazing week, when all of a sudden, I woke up with food poisoning! It continued the entire day before the race and I was convinced I wasn’t going to run. With A LOT of convincing from Matt and our friends, I woke up the next morning and decided to run/walk the race with a friend, and hopefully make it to the end. Matt ran with us for the first mile, and then ran at his own pace in the hopes of finishing in less than 2 hours. Meanwhile, my friend and I took our time.
We jogged at a comfortable pace and stopped to take pictures along the way. Two and a half hours later we crossed the finish line! There Matt was, waiting to catch me and congratulate me, or so I thought. I was trying to tell him about our run, and as I was talking he wouldn’t let go of my hands. I stopped to look at him to make sure he was okay and I saw his eyes were red. I then realized what was happening! I went to wipe the sweat out of my face and noticed a group of women holding signs that said, “Brielle, will you marry me?”
I immediately started crying, and to be honest I don’t remember what all Matt was saying to me, but I’m sure it was beautiful! He then got on one knee and asked me to marry him!!!
Our friends, along with so many other racers were around us cheering as I said yes! Those custom Nike running shoes we got 6 months before the race now made sense!
