How We Met
The summer going into our senior year of high school, Jason and I were introduced at a lake house a state away from home. We’d later find out we lived only 15 minutes away from one another. Despite late-stage braces, we fell for each other right away. Following his college graduation, Jason was hired for his dream job in Hawaii. We moved him out there and lived together for the whole summer. It was a summer of love and adventure that we never wanted to end, but I had to go back to the mainland to finish school.
How They Asked
I picked Jason up from the airport on December 21st. We planned to have a night in Chicago just us two- dinner, going ice skating, and seeing the Christmas lights. Through dinner and on our way to Millennium Park, Jason was SO quiet I thought it was jet lag and we should go back to the hotel, but he was determined to go ice skating. We were skating for awhile when he got a call that his friends were nearby and wanted to meet us.
We met them at the railing and they offered to take our photo. We were posing for what I thought was a normal picture when Jason turned to me saying the sweetest things and got down on one knee. Before I could say yes, all I could say was “are you serious?!” and cry and cry.
It still makes us laugh that we had to go a state away to meet each other. Jason is my high school sweetheart, my best friend, and my adventure buddy. I cannot wait to marry this man!! I love you always in all ways J.
