How We Met
Mickeal and I both started at Georgia Tech in Fall 2012. We were both incredibly excited to start college and live in a new part of the country in an exciting city. Neither of us has lived in Atlanta before and we didn’t know anyone going into college. September 2012 was parents weekend at Georgia Tech. This was the opportunity for (mainly freshmen) parents to come, visit, tailgate on campus and enjoy a football game. My parents were gushing with excitement to visit and my mom was especially eager to learn if I had started dating anyone. To her disappointment, I had not so she took it upon herself to fix that. She saw Mickeal who I had never met before and instantly ran over to him and introduced herself. Mind you I had never even seen him before so Mickeal had no idea who this woman was talking to him!
My face was red and I was so embarrassed. I couldn’t believe my mother decided to randomly go up to this handsome guy and set us up. She started asking him about his major and where he is from then started bragging about me while I stood embarrassed feet away just waiting for this to end. I knew for sure Mickeal would think I was super lame and just prayed that I would never run into him again on campus. Luckily he was very sweet about the entire situation and we started talking after – I apologized for my prying mother and we ended up laughing about the whole thing! We became really good friends that year and clicked instantly. He was funny, outgoing and incredibly smart!
After spending the summer apart freshmen year we realized how much we cared for each other and missed each other and started dating at the beginning of our second year. Mickeal was an amazing support system to have throughout college. We both studied engineering which was incredibly hard at Georgia Tech but we helped each other through the stress, partied during the downtimes and in the end, had amazing college experience. We graduated together in May 2017 and I was so happy to graduate with my best friend and excited about our future. We have stayed in Atlanta ever since and still visit Georgia Tech for football games and laugh about the first day when we met.
How They Asked
I love a good view of a city skyline – whenever we explore a new city, the first thing I do is look for rooftop lounges or sky decks with views of the city. Mickeal researched some of the best rooftop views in Atlanta and found the SkyLounge downtown. He hired a photographer to capture the engagement because I had hinted that I would like to have better quality than iPhone pictures to capture this big moment. He told me he wanted to get drinks somewhere downtown one weekend so I got dressed up and ready to go.
The rooftop was absolutely stunning and we had perfect weather to enjoy the view. At one point I ran to the bathroom and when I came out he was looking at me smiling. He got down on one knee and told me how much he loved and cared about me and was so excited for our lives together and he popped the question!
I was so excited and instantly mesmerized by how beautiful the ring was! Because he hired a photographer we had a mini photo shot afterward to capture some amazing rooftop views then we had an amazing evening basking in the post engagement excitement!
