How We Met
Steve and I met in high school. Senior year we began hanging out in the same group. One of the things I have always noticed and liked about him was that he was always a nice guy and would go out of his way for anyone. At the end of the summer we went to separate colleges. Steve stayed local and I went off the Connecticut. We would talk a little and hang out with friends while home on breaks. After my sophomore year I transferred back home. Steve and I started hanging out more one on one since most of our friends were away at other schools.
As we started hanging out just the two of us, many of my friends and family began telling me Steve had a crush on me. I didn’t believe them but one night Steve asked me to be more than friends. I turned him down since I did not want to ruin such a great friendship. After that, we still hung out all the time but I could not shake the feeling that there may be something more between us. One night, I told him to ask me again. Luckily, he did and we officially started dating!
how they asked
Steve and I went on a trip to the Finger Lakes. It was our second time visiting the area so we went to some of our favorite spots as well as a few new ones. We were having so much fun going on hikes and exploring the area. Knowing how much I love watching the sunset we started a routine of watching the sunset over the lake every night before heading out to dinner. So, it was no surprise to me when Steve suggested we watch the sunset and head to a nice dinner on our last night there. The whole day Steve kept mentioning this would be a sunset to remember. I thought he was just being silly and laughed. That night, after we were ready, Steve said he wanted to head outside and have a glass of wine and take some pictures of the lake and the sunset.
When we got outside he led me to the grassy area in front of the dock. We were looking at the lake when he took my hand and pulled me to face him. He looked me in the eyes and said “You know how I told you this would be a sunset to remember…” After that he got down on one knee and said the most romantic things and then asked me to marry him.
I said yes!
Knowing I always dreamed of a photographed proposal, Steve hired a photographer to capture the whole thing!
It was a total surprise and definitely a moment to remember. I am so incredibly happy to be able to spend the rest of my life with my best friend!
