how we met
Brett and I first met on February 7, 2015. My friend Kelley had asked me to go out to listen to a band with her and her boyfriend. Throughout the night, I saw a guy that caught my eye. As I went up to pay my bill, he came over and said hi. I’ll never forget how handsome he was and how gorgeous his brown eyes were. We talked briefly, exchanged phone numbers, and then he kissed me. It was very unexpected and little did I know that it would be my last first kiss. We texted each other and I thought he wasn’t interested in me at all, but he actually was. We had lunch and dinner over the course of the next few weeks and spent most of our free time together.
how they asked
Brett proposed on February 20, 2016. For my birthday, he bought tickets to go to Grand Junction, Colorado to visit his family and to do some skiing. Saturday morning, February 20, we woke up early and picked up his brother, nephew, and his nephew’s friend. We left at 7am and drove to Moab, Utah to hike Arches National Park to see the Delicate Arch as the views are incredible.
It was a beautiful day and the temperature was in the high 60s. Once we made it to the top, Brett suggested that we have his dad take our picture under the arch. We walked over and stood under the arch and smiled for his dad. It was at this time that he turned and faced me. I was confused as to why he was facing me for a picture. He asked me if I loved him, which of course I said yes.
He then got down on one knee, pulled out the most gorgeous ring that I’d ever seen and said, “Will you”? I was so stunned that I stood there for a moment and then nodded my head yes. Everyone at the arch began to clap. He slipped the ring on my finger and told me to turn for the photographer that I thought was his dad. It was not. Brett had a photographer hike up to the arch before us and take pictures of the entire proposal! Her friend also hid behind a rock and was able to videotape it as well.
I was absolutely blown away! His whole family knew about the proposal and had worked together so that Brett could pull it off. It was the most amazing, romantic, and beautiful thing that has ever happened to me. I still am shock over it. Brett is my best friend and I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with him.
