How We Met
It all begin with a simple curiosity of online dating apps. I signed for OK Cupid not really expecting anything from it. When I was online, I posted a very brutally honest description of myself. It was pretty long and it detailed who I was and what I was looking for. I didn’t try and make myself sound different; I wanted any date to like me for me. I was very up front and honest. I used a funny little picture of myself dressed up in a war-style outfit from a vintage shop. She said she liked the outfit and just had to reach out to me. That worked great with me because I was very shy and could not find the courage to reach out to anyone. I replied that I was a bit nervous about the online dating scene, but I was willing to try. We exchanged phone numbers and would spend countless hours calling each other. There were days where we would stay up all night talking on the phone. There was never a dull moment in our conversations; it was great. Soon we decided it was time to met so we setup a date.
The day had arrived and I was nervous. I still remember that sinking feeling when I her car pulled up. I was extremely nervous and didn’t know what to expect. However, that feeling went away the moment I saw her. She was beautiful. My heart just have skipped a few beats because I just fell in love. We went on a little date and just talked. I remember how nervous I was the entire time. I had never dated anyone; she was my first date. I didn’t really know what to do or expect, but she made everything seem so natural. I just remember being so happy. My face hurt from smiling, I couldn’t stop talking and I felt more comfortable than I had ever been with anyone. The day went absolutely amazing! I could not have met a better person. There was an instant connection and I knew I had caught someone special.
how they asked
It all started very early in the morning. I knew it was going to be a great day. I had never felt so happy in my life. I was excited about it! I had decided I would make a video diary of the day to document the special occasion. I had packed everything I needed to make my plan succeed; the “Our Adventure” scrapbook, the “Just Engaged” buttons, everything. It was all set in place. I thought my excitement alone was going to give me away. We were on our way to Disneyland for the first time in almost two months. Our passes had expired and we were going to renew them. We bought some Premium pass vouchers when the Annual Pass price increase happened. Thankfully I found a pair at our local Disney store.
We arrived at Disneyland and renewed our pass using the vouchers. I took a leave of absence to meet my sister in the park and give her my scrapbook, and the package. While my sister waited for our friend Chris to arrive, my fiancée and I decided to browse the shops. We were thinking about buying some items for Christmas and needed to get our actual pass for the discounts. We went over to the ticket booths to renew our pass. The Cast Member said they didn’t distribute Premium passes anymore so they upgraded us to Signature Plus passes! (Another yay!) The Cast Member asked for our passes, but I didn’t have them on hand. Well I did, but they were in the scrapbook as they were part of our adventures. I couldn’t say I had them either without giving away my plan. Luckily my fiancée remembered about the Disneyland app and our linked passes. We checked the app and sure enough, the passes were updated. Back to the park we went!
We browsed around a few shops looking to buy a gift, but never found anything. I had planned for an adventure at Redwood Challenge Creek Trail to become Wilderness Explorers, but we were not able to do that due to some complications. But that was okay; I could still manage. The moment was quickly approaching. Chris had arrived and I knew it was only a matter of time before it was going to happen. I needed more distractions to give them time to prepare. I dragged the shopping experience for a lot longer than it should have been. Poor thing, I thought I was annoying her with how long I kept her in the shops.
My sister had texted me with a time limit of fifteen to thirty minutes. Dang, I had to act fast. I don’t know how I managed to get away for a few moments, but it happened. I gave my sister my camera and my phone to capture the entire proposal. They had told me they got a Cast Member to arrange for a Photopass Photographer to take pictures. I was full of glee! I returned to meet my fiancée and begin the proposal.
We went inside the Animation Studio to admire the scenery. We sat next to Chris and started a “random conversation”. It was perfect because his conversations were related to UP and made it easier to transition for the scrapbook. I made an excuse to leave so I could wait for my cue to come in. It seemed like the wait took FOREVER!!!!! We just had to wait for the perfect scene. It had to start with UP’s “Married Life”. I started to recognize the order of scenes; I knew it was coming up. I was ready. Or so I thought…
The scene began; UP began to play across all the screens. Chris gave my fiancée the scrapbook. I can’t imagine what she was thinking when she got the scrapbook to reveal pictures of us. He came to meet me and I began to get nervous. This was it. It was happening. He reassured me that everything would turn out great. Then Chris’ fiancée floated over the package to her. That was my cue to come in. I waited behind her while she opened the package to reveal our “Just Engaged” buttons. I went up to her and stood her up from the seat. She had no idea what was happening. That’s when I got down on one knee and asked her to marry me. The best part? SHE SAID YES!
It was amazing! Everyone around us cheered, photographs were being taken left and right; the plan went great. As an added bonus (which I wanted to happen, but did not think would), Tangled’s “I See the Light” began to play as the ring was put on and the buttons were pinned. It was just perfect!
We met with everyone involved and I finally got to explain everything. Everyone congratulated us and took more pictures for us. Chris got a Cast Member to get a special something for us. Unfortunately, he had to leave and couldn’t stick around for much longer. I thanked him for everything he had done to make it possible. I will forever be in his debt.
Everyone departed and headed separate ways while we waited for the Cast Member to return. We didn’t mind waiting; I knew she would want to let everything soak in. We took a seat and just had a great talk about everything. Eventually, one of the lead Cast Members came up to us and gave us a voucher for a free pair of Mr. & Mrs. Mickey & Minnie ear hats. I was not expecting that at all, but it just made the day even more magical. We met up with my sister again and she went around with us to take more pictures. I must say that I’m very thankful I had her there. I love that someone was there to photograph us. Overall, everything was perfect!
I cannot thank everyone involved enough. I am truly grateful for your cooperation for making this special day filled with magic. I owe my sister, Chris and his fiancé a great deal of gratitude. And I owe it to Disneyland and the Cast Members for working with us and providing everything to make it a magical proposal. Thank you, everyone!
