How We Met

Eddie and I met 3 1/2 years ago through a mutual friend at work. I had gone out that night with our mutual friend to get some drinks, and later on that evening we ended up running into Eddie. We had a nice night, talked a little bit and both went on our way. Within the next few weeks came your typical Instagram requests, both of us liking each others pictures occasionally to show that we were paying attention, but to not look like we were stalking each other quite yet… Well fast forward about a month, and he still hadn’t asked for my number yet. I’m not usually one to pull the big moves but there was something about him. I decided to text our mutual friend and ask when the heck Eddie was going to ask for my number.. Needless to say, he got the hint, and I got the first text, “So I wanted to know if I could get your number….” From that point on we talked all the time, went on a few group dates, and then finally one date just the two of us. It was then that I knew he was special. He was the nicest and kindest man I had ever met. Fast forward 3 months (I’m telling you he doesn’t make big moves fast) he took me to our favorite Italian restaurant in Newport, and then to the beach in Balboa. We sat on the lifeguard tower and talked for hours. As we were walking back to the car, he grabbed my arm and pulled me back to him, and asked me to be his girlfriend. Since then we’ve shared numerous memories neither one of us will forget, numerous amounts of laughter, and we’ve also been through some pretty traumatic moments that will stick with us forever. There is nobody that understands me the way he does, and there is no body that has ever let me by 100 percent myself the way that he does. He is my person, and I his.

how they asked

After dating for two years, and living together for one, we knew we were going to be together forever. We were both in a situation where we held great jobs, and we didn’t want to keep spending money on rent. We purchased our first home together in October of 2016, and 4 months later we got our first dog together. We knew we would one day get married, but it wasn’t a conversation we had daily… monthly, yes but not daily. After owning our own home for a year, I had a feeling the proposal was going to be soon. Eddie doesn’t plan very many things in advance, and he asked me a week ahead of time to leave the following Sunday free of any plans. I wasn’t trying to get my hopes up, but of course I couldn’t help but wonder if this was going to be it. All week I tried not to think about it, but it was always in the back of my mind. Come Sunday, I woke up and asked him what our plans were for the day, and I got nothing. No, literally he had made no plans for the day. Long story short, we ended up looking for a Christmas tree, and eating Inn In Out for dinner. To say I was bummed out is an understatement. Three weeks go by, and I am all over the place, trying to plan Christmas, getting my shopping done, and avoiding the grocery store like nobody’s business. The weekend goes by and he says he wants to do something that Monday. I was so overwhelmed with the holidays that I didn’t think anything of it, and after the last date day he planned I certainly wasn’t getting my hopes up. Monday came along and I ran errands in the morning and got ready to head out. We drove down to the beach, and I was assuming he was surprising me with a boat ride to see the Christmas light show they have every year. It wasn’t till he started to drive around the neighborhood that I started to think something was going on. He was on his phone and kept checking his texts every few minutes. After driving around for 15 minutes he finally parked the car. We got out and we started to walk to the sand, and it was the exact same spot he asked me to be his girlfriend. It was then that I knew it was really going to happen. We walked further into the sand and there were blankets set up, with candles, rose petals, and champagne. Being nervous I immediately asked him if he wanted to sit down. He turned me around, got down on one knee and said to me ” I had this whole speech planned out, and I’ve completely forgotten it. You are my person, and I love you. Will you marry me?” I don’t know at what point I said yes, but somewhere I blurted it out. We hugged and we kissed, and then I turned around only to realize he had a photographer there to capture the entire thing! It was perfect, absolutely perfect. As if it couldn’t get any better, we sat down and started to open the champagne, and out of no where, I mean no where, this beautiful golden retriever comes running up to us from the other side of the beach, runs directly towards Eddie and lays in his lap. Now this might not seem like anything special to other people, but we are huge dog lovers. We were already on cloud 9 as it was, and having that dog (we later found out was named JuJu) run up to us like that was the icing on the cake. And to make it even better, Eddie told me we were going home to surprise my parents, only to find out he already had both of our families waiting there. It was the perfect end to a perfect day!
