Breana and John
How We Met
Who would have thought in 2009, when we met at Martin County High School, that we would be where we are today. I was a sophomore, and Johnny was a junior when we met in our genetics class. We were friends who actually happened to live on the same street. Johnny left for college at the University of Florida and we lost touch for a few years. I would still get the occasional text asking how I was doing, but if I’m being honest, it was the occasional text to invite me to a fraternity event or date function. It wasn’t until I went to Gainesville to visit a friend of mine, when I finally caved and decided to stop by and see him. We continued texting and visiting each other for a few months. That following Fall, I moved to Orlando for school and we were living so much closer to each other, which made our relationship that much better.
I wasn’t happy in Orlando, so I decided to apply to UF as a transfer student. I didn’t tell Johnny I was applying because I was nervous enough about getting in. The day after St. Patrick’s Day, I opened my email to an acceptance letter. I called Johnny and told him and we were both ecstatic. August of 2013, about a year and a half into our relationship, I moved to Gainesville to begin my journey as a Gator. Making the move to the swamp was the best thing that could have ever happened for us. We made so many unforgettable memories and five years later, here we are.
how they asked
For years, Johnny and I have been talking about renting a cabin in the mountains and bringing our two huskies to see some snow. In May, we relocated to Atlanta so the drive to North Carolina was only a short 3 hours. We finally decided to book a cabin and just do it. We had set aside a day to drive to Asheville and visit The Biltmore Estate, We stopped at Vortex Donuts for breakfast (so I knew it was going to be a great day,) and then headed to the Estate. Once we arrived, Johnny was so eager to walk to the top of the hills and walk around the property. We had literally just stepped out of the car, so it was weird to me that he was so anxious to walk around right away. It was also about 35 degrees outside.
As we were walking up to the hills, I noticed Johnny kept staring at the top of the hill and there was a person there. I kept saying to myself, “Why does he keep looking at the top of the hill at that person?!” It was so strange to me. He seemed a little nervous and quiet, so I had a feeling something was up. As soon as we got to “the spot” I of course asked Johnny to take my picture in front of this mansion.
He then removed the ring box from his jacket, got down on one knee, and asked me to spend forever with him. I was completely speechless. Then, the person at the top of the hill comes running down, and Johnny says that he hired a photographer! He knew how special it was to me to have this moment captured on camera.
Following the proposal, Jennifer (our photographer,) captured our excitement for an hour and took the most beautiful photos of us around the Biltmore. I was so overwhelmed with love, joy and excitement. I couldn’t believe the man of my dreams had asked me to MARRY HIM! The ring is absolutely gorgeous and the best part is that he picked it out all on his own. He did admit to having some help from my Pinterest boards, but this is so much more than I could have ever imagined. We are so excited for this next chapter of our lives and so excited for what is to come. Let the wedding planning begin!
