How We Met
Brandon and I met in high school. We were Biology lab partners in the 10th grade, and took turns dissecting decaying frogs. (How romantic!) We went on to complete our degrees at different North Carolina colleges, and met back up at our friend’s wedding last November. He took me to Christmas at the Biltmore House for our first date, and we had dinner at the Inn. It was the most romantic dinner and date I have ever been on!
He asked me out a few weeks later while we were ice skating in Charlotte. He recited one of his favorite Bible verses, Jeremiah 29:11, For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”…It was the same bible verse he recited when he proposed!
how they asked
We arrived at the Biltmore House for our anniversary date, where we were set to take a rooftop tour. As soon as we got there, Brandon had to use the restroom. He was in there forever! (Turns out he was meeting our photographer, and getting wired for sound with the videographer.) As we walked toward the house, Brandon told me he wanted us to read our letters to each other right now. We always write little love letters to each other on anniversaries, so I didn’t think it was anything out of the ordinary, except for the fact that he was being so pushy. As soon as he took out his letter, I knew something was up. It was three pages long! I even tried to peek over the top of the letter to see if he had written “Will you marry me?” but it wasn’t there. I tried to focus on what he was saying, but all I wanted to hear were those four words. He finished his letter, but no question! Turns out, he couldn’t get his vest zipper down to get the ring out of the pocket..only moments later when he finally got it, he told me, “You were my lady in red, and I want you to be my woman in white, Sarah, Will you marry me?” I don’t remember much after that, but I kept asking him if this was for real. I think I’ve played it out so many times in my head, that I couldn’t believe it was actually happening right in front of my eyes!
Brandon told me he had one more surprise for me. I looked up the hill to see my Mom and Dad who had taken off work for the day, and had been hiding in the bushes and trees for the last two hours. I couldn’t believe how sweet this man of mine was to think and coordinate of all this, to make this day so special for me. We popped champagne right there on the hill, and it was the best day ever.
