How We Met
Stefano and I met 7 years ago at a High School flag football game. We were both on separate rival teams playing against one another. I had never met him before that day and the minute I saw him on the field I knew that he had to be mine. Throughout the game we kept making eye contact and I was hoping that he felt the same way about me as I did him. At half time I was sitting with my mom and my best friend and I told them how cute I thought he was and I told them that he was going to be mine by the end of the game. Halftime was over and it was time to play again. My team at the time was playing defense and of course I offered to guard Stefano. As I was guarding him the ball was thrown and I was looking towards the ball and not him. The next thing I know I accidentally tackled Stefano, during a flag football game! Oops! I looked down at him slightly embarrassed and mumbled “I’m sorry”, he just smiled and reassured me that it was quite alright. In that moment in time I knew we were meant to be. Although, my team was penalized for my accidental tackle, that day I tackled my now future husband! My team may have lost the game, but I gained a lifelong partner and best friend. Stefano and I have been together ever since that moment. We have traveled the world together and try to go somewhere new at least every six months.
how they asked
We had previously talked about getting engaged many times, but I didn’t know when it would be our time. So when we booked a trip to the Bahamas I had no clue I would come back an engaged woman. The first day we arrived at Atlantis in the Bahamas we just explored the grounds and relaxed by the beach. We noticed that there was an opportunity to swim with dolphins (something neither of us have ever done) and I knew I wanted to do it. However, I knew we had a list of things we wanted to do and didn’t know if we would have the time.
The next morning, Stefano and I went to the beach just enjoying our time when he stated he was going to go to the gym I chose to stay at the beach, because who wants to work out on vacation? Not me! Little did I know that he was actually at the Dolphin Cay setting up our proposal!
He came back to the beach and stated we are swimming with dolphins at 2 p.m. so we needed to leave the beach by 1 p.m.. I was so excited to finally have the opportunity to swim with the dolphins (a lifelong dream of mine). When we got there we just relaxed until it was our turn to swim and everything seemed like just a normal day. I noticed Stefano was slightly fidgety, but I just assumed it was because he was excited. We swam with the dolphins and at the end of the “dolphin adventure” the group leader separated the girls from the guys.
Allowing the girls more time with the dolphins as the guys got out of the bay. The dolphin trainer threw a toy into the water for the dolphin to get and the dolphin brought it back to me. The dolphin trainer then told me to open it.
I just assumed there was a fish in the toy as a treat for the dolphin. I struggled getting it open, but when I did there was a scroll inside. I then got a whirl of butterflies in my stomach I didn’t know what was going on, but I became very nervous.
When I opened the scroll and read “Will You Marry Me” I paused for a second taking the information in. When I looked behind me there was Stefano at the edge of the water on one knee and ring in hand.
I was absolutely shocked! I didn’t even get a chance to look at the ring. I ran right over and just embraced his shaking nervous body. We were both absolutely thrilled. I couldn’t have dreamt of a better proposal to the man of my dreams. We spent the rest of the vacation enjoying our time as future Mr. & Mrs. Tandon!
