How We Met
Well, Eddie went on two dates with one of my best friends at the time and when I first saw him, I was stunned. I thought to myself, “Darn! Why couldn’t I get that lucky?” When my friend mentioned that he wasn’t interested in a serious relationship due to leaving for college soon and wanted to end things with Eddie, I supported that decision and asked if it would be okay if I continued talking to him…just as friends, of course. Through our chats, we realized we had so much in common. Weeks went by and sparks continued to fly. After some time, we decided that “the coast was clear” and that my friend wouldn’t be upset over our relationship, so we decided to go on our first official date. Thanks to my friend not wanting a serious relationship, I get to say that the past ten years have been the best of my life and that I AM the lucky one.
How They Asked
Bradley has always told me that if we were to get married, I would have to be the one to propose. He wanted the moment where his partner got down on one knee, in front of the entire world, and asked him to marry them. Let’s just say, Bradley loves the attention. I, on the other hand, do not like attention. It’s been 10 years and I think Bradley was growing a tiny bit impatient so he concocted this whole plan to propose but to propose in a manner that meets both his and my attention-gathering needs, haha. Bradley and I, along with two other friends, went to New York City (Bradley’s favorite city) for RuPaul’s DragCon. After the event, we strolled through Central Park, checking out all of the little pockets of unique sculptures, art, natural settings, etc.. We lingered especially long in Shakespeare’s Garden because I love all things plant-based.
A tiny bit of a background for this next part, Bradley has a podcast/YouTube channel called AudioShelf with his best friend (and photographer of our proposal) Britney. They were taking headshots earlier in the day and also wanted to get some action shots of “fans listening” to an episode they released that day. I expected loads of photos to be taken, but what I wasn’t expecting was to listen to a 5-minute recording Bradley did by himself where he expressed his love for me and, at the end of the recording, popped the question. As my face was full of tears, I took off the headphones, looked at Bradley as he was taking one knee, and heard him say, “Will you marry me?” Little did he know at the time, that in just a couple of months, I would be getting down on one knee and asking HIM to marry me under the Hollywood Sign.
