How We Met
Brad and I met when he moved to my hometown in September of 2008 – I was in grade 8 and he was in grade 9. I had the biggest crush on him for as long as I can remember, but nothing actually ever happened between us until June of 2011. We had kissed at a party and then I didn’t hear from him (besides at school) for 6 months. In December of 2011, we started hanging out more. We didn’t tell any of our friends, I guess we were just trying to see how things would go (they went pretty well). Brad was graduating in June of 2012, so in March he asked me to be his escort, which was around the time everyone found out about us. In May 2012, Brad asked me to be his girlfriend. And that is how our love story starts.
how they asked
For Brad’s birthday, I bought him tickets for us to go to an NHL game in Calgary. We had a month to plan our trip, so we were planning and Brad suggested that we go to Banff for a night, since we had never been there together. We were thinking of things that we could do there, so I bought tickets for us to go on the gondola,
The day came that we were on our way to Banff and the weather was horrible, it was -30 outside and snowing. But we went anyways, since we had everything booked. We got to the hotel, had lunch and then headed for the gondola. Once we got off the gondola, we went and checked out all of the things there was to see up there, and decided to sit down for a drink before heading outside to take a walk on the boardwalk to the old weather station. We weren’t sure if we would actually walk all the way up, since when you’re up on top of a mountain, it’s 10 degrees colder, and half of the walk wouldn’t be guarded by trees.
After we decided to go on the walk, we made our way outside and walked (ran) up there. It was about a 15 minute walk, and of course we couldn’t actually see anything because it was snowing. We were told that the weather station would be open when we got up there, but it was locked. So I went beside the building and I was taking pictures, because it happened to clear up in a few spots for a little bit.
Brad came up to me and said “There’s some really old stuff in there” (the door is glass, so you’re able to look right inside) I hadn’t actually looked in there yet, so I went around the corner and checked it out. I went back around the corner to talk to him and he was down on one knee, with the most beautiful ring I have ever seen.
Brad asked me to marry him, and of course I said YES.
