Blake and Ryan
How We Met
Ryan and I met in high school! We were babies when we started dating at 14 years old… We pretty much grew up together and remained together throughout all of high school and most of our college years. We’ve always been best friends and that’s what I love most about our relationship. We just have so much in common… For as long as I can remember, it’s been the two of us. It’s hard to remember a time when he wasn’t a part of my life!
how they asked
Ryan had asked me if I wanted to plan a date to get some of our friends together to go hiking while he was back in West Virginia for that weekend in May. He has been in Blacksburg, VA for the last year working on completing his Master’s Degree, so we take any chance we can get to spend time together. And I’m always up for a day of hiking, especially with our friends! I didn’t really think anything of it, but thought how great it was that six of our closest friends were all able to get together with us that day since all of our schedules are so busy… We’ve been to Blackwater Falls many times in the past and always really enjoy ourselves when we’re there! Ryan and I are very outdoorsy and adventurous, so we love it in that part of West Virginia. We all arrived at Blackwater Falls that Sunday morning and it was just really nice to see everyone. It had been a while since we’d all been together… We lived next door to each other throughout our years at West Virginia University and spent every moment possible with each other. We started hiking down to our favorite spot in the falls… The weather was so perfect even though the forecast was calling for a day full of rain!! When we got down to the bottom, we were all just enjoying the scenery and each other’s company… My best friend, Hannah, is a photographer and always has her camera wherever we go. Another reason I didn’t think anything out of ordinary was going to happen!!
Ryan and I were standing up on a big rock with the falls behind us when Hannah said she was going to take our picture. I turned around and Ryan was down on one knee! I was so surprised!! He even pulled out a dozen red roses from his hiking backpack! Of course, I said “Yes!” and when I turned around our friends were all celebrating! After all of the excitement and congratulations, we hiked back up to the top and headed to a place called The Purple Fiddle for lunch before we all went our separate ways back home… It was such a perfect day and so special to have some of our best friends from high school and college there to celebrate with us.
