How We Met
Jonny and I were in a school production of Beauty & The Beast in 2011 when we were only 14 and 15 years old. I thought he was cute but he was in the year below and I hadn’t seen him around before so I didn’t know his name or much about him but luckily I saw a mutual friend had added him on Facebook and I recognised him as the cute guy from the production!
We didn’t actually speak for the first time until June 2013 when he sent me a message and after a couple weeks of trying to talk myself out of it I gave in and met up with him for the first time in the park near my house. We walked from there to the cinema where we saw our first film together (a tradition that we still do at least 2/3 times a week now!) A couple days after I received a text from Jonny asked me if I’d like to go on a date with him and I was just over the moon excited. It’s strange that we never really went through a friendship stage, I think as soon as we started talking we just knew there was something more.
I was 17 years old but I was a little embarrassed to tell my mum I was hanging out with a boy after school, especially as I’d never had a proper boyfriend before, so I’d pretend to be with some friends whilst we met at a field half way between both our houses where we’d just sit and talk for hours. I’d never felt more understood by somebody and it was strange how instant our connection was. There are no words to describe how thankful I am that God bought him into my life when I needed somebody the most.
July 16th 2013 is when we finally made it official and we haven’t looked back since. We are each other’s best friends and it’s so exciting being in love with and having constant adventures with the person who makes you feel so happy every single day.
Here’s us on New Years Eve 2015
& here we are on a trip taken in August 2016.
We are now 20 and 21 and are coming up to celebrating 4 and half years together.
how they asked
16th November 2017 marked 4 years and 4 months of our relationship, little did I know it would have a whole new meaning…
Jonny picked out a dress that morning that he wanted me to wear as we were travelling back to our hometown from the town we moved to together earlier in the year.
When we arrived he took me for dinner and after we went and visited a church we’d always drive to when we lived back home. It’s in the middle of nowhere, therefore, it’s so so quiet. We used to spend so much time there and it was always our happy escape place if either of us had a bad day or even if we just wanted somewhere peaceful to be.
Once we arrived I went exploring around the fields on my own while he hung back. Once I returned I was greeted by beautiful tea-lights on the fence and I caught on at that point, though it’s not unusual for him to do things like this.
He told me how he’d spoken to my parents and we were both already crying so much but when he told me that my dad said he’d always looked at our relationship and thought it just felt right, I lost it even more and couldn’t stop crying. My family mean the world to me and to know that they were just as excited for us was so very special.
I sadly no longer have my grandparents around but half of my family are Irish Catholic and so not only does this church have special meaning to both myself and Jonny but it felt as though my grandparents could be with us to share the moment.
It was the most happy and fulfilling moment of my life and my best friends started celebrating instantly…
