How We Met
Joey and I FIRST met in passing at, my Maid of Honor, Allison’s house. It wasn’t romantic by any means because Joey was a senior in high school at Manchester High while I was a sophomore at Clover Hill. It wasn’t until a few years later in 2012 that Joey added me on Facebook (he says I added him but he can’t prove it).
August 29th, 2012 Joey sent me a conversational Facebook message from Okinawa, Japan (while on a deployment). We were on opposite time schedules but he always managed to be up during my most boring class (International Relations) so I looked forward to his messages. We talked almost daily for a month and a half before he returned home. We decided to meet up for Chipotle to celebrate his return. We had easy conversation like we had been friends for years. Things pretty much dimmed down when I found out Joey lived an hour and 45 minutes away in Hampton, VA for his job in the Air Force as an Avionic Specialist. Although we had good conversation, I was too busy with school and he was deeply involved with MMA fighting so making a long distance relationship didn’t ever cross our minds. I take it God was just setting us up for His perfect timing.
In April of 2013, I ran into Joey at Vertical Church on Easter Sunday. I was shocked to see him because although we texted here and there, I hadn’t seen him since our Chipotle date. It was then that he told me he was looking at houses in Chesterfield to move closer to family (his parents, 2 brothers and one sister all live within 15 minutes of each other). Needless to say, we instantly started talking a lot more.
It wasn’t until June 2013 that we would go on our first official date. He took me to Putt Putt mini golf where we played two rounds of golf. Joey thinks he won and I think I did so only God knows what actually occurred. All I remember is being overcome with the feeling that I loved being around Joey. He was fun and easy to talk to. He would sing Usher with me in the car without hesitation and bought me ice cream. Joey came over and met my dad and sister in the same night and we spent hours completing a Winnie the Pooh puzzle. He didn’t leave until it was finished. Joey bought his house August 31st 2015 and made me his girlfriend the same night. And the rest is history…
how they asked
When Joey and I were dating (but not yet officially boyfriend/girlfriend) we picked out the most precious Bernese Mountain dog out together that would live at Joey’s new home! We named him Gordon after some intense name searching. A few days after we picked him up from the breeders, Joey folded up a note in our 9 week old puppy’s collar asking me to be his girlfriend. Clearly, I said yes!
Almost two years later, Layna Comeforo messaged me about wanting to add dog photos to her portfolio. She is a photographer from our church who has taken gorgeous pictures for Joey and I in the past and who also took my college graduation pictures! I jumped at the opportunity without knowing Joey was behind it planning much bigger things. He had messaged Layna and asked her to ploy me out to take some photos so she could capture our engagement on film! Gordon had a new tag on his collar and this time it said “marry my dad”. I said yes for a second time on July 31st 2015 and now we get to plan our happily ever after!
