How We Met
Luke and I met in the middle school band and became friends freshman year of high school. After years of friendship, we started dating the summer between junior and senior year of high school and kept our relationship going strong through college while only seeing each other once a month – he was in NYC and I was in Connecticut.
I was lucky enough to get into Columbia University’s Occupational Therapy Program for grad school, and Luke and I have now been living together in NYC for two years!
How They Asked
We’ve been staying at our parent’s homes in Pennsylvania since quarantine started in March. Quite a change when you’ve been dating for 7 years and living together in a little NYC apartment. I had been hinting at Luke that I was ready to get engaged, and had shown him pictures of my dream ring. Little did I know, he had my dream ring ordered and picked it up in early April. He kept me thinking he was unable to get a ring because of the shut-down when the truth was he already had it! While his original plan of proposing in Riverside Park by the 79th St. boat basin with our families hiding was not able to go through, he truly came through.
We went on vacation with my family to Narragansett, Rhode Island, and had just finished eating dinner at a cute restaurant on the water (shoutout Aunt Carrie’s). My sister and Luke had been planning the proposal for a few weeks as I later found out, and disguised the proposal as family photos on a rock beach we ALWAYS take photos at.
After my family took pictures together, Luke and I were getting a couple of photos taken when he got down on one knee in front of my parents, grandparents, and sister. I started ugly-crying immediately and forgot to say yes right away. It was such a dream, and now I am engaged to my best friend and high school sweetheart!
