how we met
Despite growing up in the same town, having many mutual friends, and even going to the same grade school (one grade apart), Bryan and I never really met or spent any time together. Luckily, we were brought back together at two of our close friends’ wedding in May of last year. Ill never forget the moment we met: I walked into the reception and stopped to say hi when he smiled at me. After catching up for 10 minutes, we got interrupted and parted ways. Even though I couldn’t remember his name, I felt a true spark. I immediately found the bride on the dance floor and asked who he was. The rest of the night was a blur as we danced together, laughed, and got to know each other. I went home knowing that this is what it was supposed to feel like when you meet someone truly special.
It took less than 2 days for us to start our long-distance relationship. Despite living 2,000 miles apart, being with Bryan has been one of the easiest decisions of my life. I am so blessed and lucky to have found my best friend and love-of-my-life.
how they asked
When we started to plan moving for my fellowship, the topic of our future, an engagement, and marriage naturally came up. But we had only ever talked theoretically. With our whirlwind of travel, meeting family, and celebrating my sister’s wedding the weekend before, I had no idea that Bryan was planning on proposing on April 9th.
After exploring the Ferry House in the morning and apartment searching in the rain, Bryan told me he wanted to go see a place called Crissy Field. We arrived just in time for the rain to stop and to take a walk on the beach. All I remember is that his hand started to shake and he was talking about our future. He turned towards me, got down on one knee, and asked me to marry him.
It was such a surprise and shock but saying yes came naturally. Since everything happened so fast, I didn’t notice that someone was taking pictures of us for quite a while. Bryan introduced me to Anna, his partner in crime and our photographer, and we got to enjoy the moment with a mini photo-shoot. It was such a wonderful way to celebrate our new engagement. Anna did such a good job of making me feel at ease and letting us revel in the moment. By the end of the shoot, she felt like an old friend.
