How We Met
In summer of 2015, some of my high school friends were in town from school and we decided to go and have a girls night out! I didn’t get out much due to school and working 24/7, but they somehow talked me into it after hours of begging. One of my girlfriends and I were sitting at a table when I noticed this good-looking guy looking at me from across the room. I turned to my friend and said, “I am going to marry that guy.. oh my gosh. He is super fine. I have to meet him. Who is he?!”. She just so happened to know him from high school, and said, “let’s go talk to him!” I was SUPER nervous to just go up to him, so, we came up with a plan for her to “accidentally” bump me into him… little did I know that this would lead me to meeting the man of my dreams. As we made our way to that side of the room, she bumped me into him, and as he turned around I said, “Oh my goodness, I am so sorry! My friend’s dancing is just out of control!”. Then he smiled and responded, “Oh! It’s fine, trust me. How about I buy you a drink?” Our conversation started there, and ended when the place closed. We exchanged numbers that night, then next thing I know, we were already introducing each other to our families just a few short weeks later.
He was (and still is) by far the most caring, loving, and kind-hearted men I have ever met in my life. I truly havefound my prince-charming.
how they asked
I bought us tickets for the Cleveland Cavaliers and New Orlean Pelicans NBA game for an early birthday present, and he told me he planned a nice dinner for us the Friday before the game. He said we can do all the tourist things that I would want to do such as walking through the French Quarters, going to the Aquarium, and most of all a HAUNTED TOUR. That’s all I talked about a week prior to the trip. My family was in Disney World without me because I had school and work that I couldn’t get out of, so he said since missed out on the Disney trip, that we could do a haunted tour! I was so excited.
When we get to the hotel that Friday night in New Orleans around 6pm, he informed me that we have reservations at a place called “Galatoires” at 7pm and to HURRY. If you know me, I take a while to get ready for something, just as any other woman. He started getting aggravated and giving me the silent treatment (so I thought) until we were ready to go. Little did I know, he wasn’t talking to me because, he was about to do the most nerve racking thing he has ever done in his life.. ask me to marry him.
We were driving down the road headed to a strip of restaurants.. him still giving me the “silent treatment”… we get parked, walk down the road, and end up in front of a place called “30 90”. We walk in and it is a jazz/country band playing in a bar room full of people. I turn to Ben and said, “I AM SO OVER DRESSED. I COULD HAVE WORN MY JEANS!” (I am not a fan of wearing a dress, lol.) He looked at me and just laughed, grabbed my hand, and lead me to the back of the bar. We end up going into an elevator, he types in some code, and I said “what in the world? I thought we were going to dinner?”. He looked at me and said, “we are! It is on the top floor. They gave me this code for the restaurant!”. I said, “Oh, okay! FANCYYYY.”
We get off, walk down this hallway to another elevator, and when the door opens, it is the SKETCHIEST THING I HAVE EVER SEEN. It is literally just a wooden pallet and a button you press to go up in it. That’s when I said, “NO WAY. YOU BOOKED US A HAUNTED TOUR!!!!!! OH MY GOSH!!!!” I was then CONVINCED that we were going on a private haunted tour… totally excited.
We then get off, walk out, and we are on the rooftop with the entire view of New Orleans. I turned to Ben and said, “BEN! WE GOT OFF AT THE WRONG FLOOR! WE’RE GOING TO GET IN TROUBLE! IT IS SET UP FOR SOMEONE!”… I wasn’t even thinking. I was so confused about what was going on… He then turned to me and said, “come with me!”, and grabbed my hand. As we turned the corner, I then saw a walk way of candles leading to a table with roses and a bottle of champagne. We walk up to the table and see the champagne glasses that read “B F B” (His and my initials).
As I turn to him in complete confusion and shock, I said, “what is going on, babe?” and that’s when he said, “I don’t know, but I do know that I love you, and I want to spend the rest of my life with you baby…”. Everything after that was a blur. He took a knee, asked me to marry him, and I said YES! Both of our eyes filled with tears, and mine with tears and mascara. I couldn’t have dreamt of a more romantic and beautiful place for him to ask for my hand in marriage. It was nothing short of a perfect night. I am marrying the man of my DREAMS!!!
