Ben and Jordan
How We Met: It was an ordinary, hot, summer day in Tallahassee and little did I know that this was going to be the day that I met the love of my life and my future wife. A friend invited me to a Tallahassee Young Republicans networking event after work. I’ve always been a sucker for networking events and figured this would be fun. I was fully expecting to see some good friends and to maybe make a few new political contacts, but I did not expect to see any beautiful girls here!
As soon as I walked in though, I immediately saw two beautiful blondes that clearly stood out among the crowd. One by one I watched as guys tried to talk to them and struck out. I found this amusing, and finally, I decided to approach them and introduce myself. After immediately getting a very cold shoulder from one, I turned to the other beautiful blonde. She seemed fun, laid back, and way too cool and beautiful to be at a Republican networking event. I asked her what she did and she told me that she was a graphic designer that recently moved to Tallahassee and was looking for a job. This was a perfect opportunity. I told her I knew of a great company she should look into and asked her if she was on Facebook (this was so I could go home and stalk her and find out if I wanted to ask her out). She told me her name was “Jordan Blue.” I thought that was a little weird, but I knew from the instant that I met her that she was different and special.
For those that know me, you know that I am very, very, very picky when it comes to girls. After stalking her on Facebook- I quickly realized that she fit the 3 C’s- cute, Christian, and conservative. I was excited! We messaged back and forth on Facebook and then her roommate invited me to a college Bible study they were having at their house. I was a little nervous thinking I would be the out-of-place old guy, but I figured what the heck. At the Bible study, I got to really see and hear Jordan’s beautiful heart. I knew I was going to ask her out.
A few weeks later we went on our first date. Talking to Jordan over dinner was like talking to someone I’ve known for years. We discovered that both of our moms were Christian psychologists, her Dad was a lawyer, and her twin brother was in law school. Jordan was great at communicating and talking on a deep level. I loved that. After dinner, we went bowling, got fake tattoos, played air hockey and easily continued talking about anything and everything. When I dropped her off, I knew that this was going to be more than a one time date, but I still had my guard up because I also knew she was someone who could hurt me deeply. After a few dates, I decided she was worth the risk of heartbreak, and I decided to intentionally pursue her.
In the months to come I fell deeply in love with her. It was just natural and felt right every step of the way. There was never any doubt. Being with Jordan is like being at home. I love everything about her (well except her pet parrot, yeah that is still weird). I always know that she will be there for me, and that she truly loves me for being me. I never thought it would be possible to love someone as much as I do and for them to love me back the same. When I met Jordan, I wasn’t looking for a wife. But God has perfect timing, and I am so lucky and blessed to be marrying my best friend and a woman who is better than my wildest dreams!
how they asked: It was a perfect day that we could tell you all about, but it would be a lot more fun for you to just watch it. I hired Shutter Life Productions to secretly film the entire proposal. I’m glad I did, because if I didn’t, neither of us would have been able to remember all of the details from that very special day!
