How We Met: John and I met one summer while I was taking a course to get my nurse assistant certification as a requirement for nursing school applications. I almost didn’t enroll in the course because it was such a last minute decision that I wasn’t sure about. Good thing I did! Because, little did I know, I was about to meet my future husband, who worked at the facility where we did our clinical rotation. My friend and I were assigned to follow him around during clinicals, and learn from him any skills we could. Towards the end of our rotation John asked for both of our phone numbers to keep in touch as a “professional contact”, but later asked me out on a date. The timing wasn’t right, and we kept in touch over the next few years, but as nothing more than friends.
Later, after graduating from college I went back to that facility to apply for a job. By this time many things in both of our lives had changed, and as we re-connected we began to date. The timing was right, and we very quickly became inseparable.
how they asked: On January 24, 2015, a beautiful sunny Saturday, we drove to my favorite little beach-town, Capitola, and spent the day relaxing at the beach (one of my favorite things to do), and fishing off the pier (one of his favorite things to do).
It was the perfect day already, but just before the sun went down John asked if I wanted to take my dog, Zigi, for a walk along the water. As we were on our way back, he stopped, got down on one knee in the sand, held up the most gorgeous and perfect ring, and asked me to be his partner and best friend for the rest of our lives. With very surprised, and very happy tears, of course – I said yes!
