How We Met
Everyone knows how awkward the “middle school years” can be & this is where our love story begins… Homeroom; 8th grade…we become friends. At the end of 8th grade, we said our goodbyes and figured we would see each other in high school. Freshman year starts…no classes together, never even see each other in the halls. The sophomore year starts…again, no classes together, but one day, I walked past the cafeteria & saw Justin! We stopped & talked for a few minutes, and before I walked away, I gave Justin my phone number. I waited & waited, but a call from him never came. Junior year starts…again, not seeing much of each other, until one day, after school, I get a call from an unknown number. Just looking at my phone, something made me answer. I picked up & was shocked when it was Justin on the other line! He wanted to know if he & a mutual friend could stop over at my house. And so they did…ended up hanging out for a while, just talking and catching up. Over the next few months, Justin & I started talking & seeing each other regularly. One night, Justin surprised me & asked me to go to prom! Then, on April 2nd, 2008, Justin asked me to be his girlfriend!! From that point on, we were inseparable through high school & college. Even with being away from each other at different schools and cities, we made our love work. In 2014, we decided we wanted to take a giant step & move in together. In June 2014, we bought our first house! In August 2015, we decided to add to our little family…and get our first fur-baby, Cooper.
how they asked
In August 2017, we took a 2-week vacation out west & during our time in South Dakota, we visited the Badlands. One night while there, we decided that the next morning we were going to get up at the crack of dawn and drive into Badlands National Park to watch the sunrise. So, on August 16th, 2017, we woke up at 3 am (mind you, I got out of bed, threw on shorts and a t-shirt & my hair went into a messy bun) and set off for the hour drive into the park. During the drive, Justin & I talked very little & at one point, I even fell asleep! Once we arrived, there was a handful of other people there, so we walked around and took pictures. After a little while, when it started to get close to sunrise, we realized just how cloudy it was. Since we weren’t going to be able to see the sun come up, most of the other visitors left the area (at this point, we were all alone). I was standing on top of this beautiful, natural wonder, just pondering the world. Justin was standing a ways behind me, taking pictures. I heard him start to say all these mushy things (which is SO unlike him), so I turned around to see what the heck was going on. I turn around and I see him getting down on one knee and holding a little box in his hand!!! He asked me to marry him on the top of a rock formation in Badlands National Park! :)
Of course, I said YES! :) I cried like a baby, but was so happy that after almost 10 years together, my dream was finally coming true! I spent the rest of the vacation admiring my new fiance & my new ring! :)
