John asked me to come to the winery for one night to join him with his work colleagues for a function. He told me we were getting a discount as one of his clients managed the property. So I was thinking this was going to be a nice, cheap break away and I was getting to meet his work colleagues for the first time.
I went and got my nails done, hair done and even tan on as I was keen to make a good first impression to his colleagues.
He even told me, we would potentially have to collect his colleague on the way as his partner may not be coming. The day before he asked, he brought home a present with his bosses name on it. His boss had just had a baby and he told me it was a present from everyone in work and we were going to give it to him when we got there. He also told me his colleague was driving up with his partner now, so there was no need to collect him.
Once we got to the venue, I was asking if anybody had arrived yet, to which he replied, they were 10 minutes away. At this stage I was a little bit excited and nervous about meeting everyone. When we went in to reception to check in, the lady at the desk told us we were here for the “function” and to head over to the restaurant where someone would escort us over to the function room. We were walked through the busy restaurant and out to the deck area, where there was a seperate function room. As we walked out we turned the corner away from the function room. Around the corner was a beautiful picnic set up over looking the vineyard with roses and candles all over the ground, with champagne and chocolate strawberries, fruit and pretty cushions. John at this stage told me that his colleagues weren’t joining us! I was so shocked John had to hold my hand to bring me to the picnic.
Once we sat down John started to hand me the present, which was a beautiful hand made photo album with amazing memories we’ve made over the 10 years of our relationship. Each photo had a caption, with one letter underlined in each caption. I didn’t realise this until the end, so I had to look at them to see what they spelt. Will you marry me?
He then got on one knee to give me the ring (also in the bag). After the excitement and lots of happy tears, John went around the corner, where he had a photographer taking photos of everything.
It was the most magical moment of my life!
