How we met:I had just returned home from a summer in Honduras where I was volunteering for a non-profit organization called Final Frontiers, and one of my friends invited me to be a camp counselor at a teen camp for a week. At first I was persistent about not going because of feeling jet lagged, but for some reason I changed my mind. Josh was also a camp counselor, and this is where Josh and I caught each others eye. We found each other by doing the thing we love the most: loving and working with people. Although we only said a few words to each other that week, there was an immediate connection. A few weeks later he asked me out for a date, and we’ve been dating ever since.
how they asked: Josh grew up in North Pole, Alaska, and always talked about taking me to Alaska to see his hometown, and to see the first houses he ever built. At first the thought of going to Alaska wasn’t really appealing to me, because it just seemed like the weather is never-ending frigid!! Being a Chicago girl, I’ve had my share of arctic winters, and that was enough for me! But the more and more Josh talked about Alaska and how beautiful the summers are, the idea eventually grew on me, and on my 23rd birthday Josh surprised with a trip to Alaska with his whole family!
Josh seriously planned a trip of a lifetime! We were able to visit Denali national park where we saw moose, caribou, and even a grizzly with her cub. We went white water rafting, gold mining, and we even did the color run!(You can see all those pictures on our video). After a fun week of planned activities, the day before we were supposed to leave, Josh surprised me and told me that we were going to have a photo shoot so we could always remember the time we had in Alaska. Because we went to Alaska in the summer, the sun was out pretty much ALL day! So we met our photographer around 10pm that evening, and drove to Etlukna Lake. My jaw seriously dropped when we arrived as I looked around at the beautiful crystal lake surrounded be the most gorgeous mountains! Lauren Roberts (our photographer) took a couple of pictures, and then took me aside to do some solo portraits. She just kept telling me to look down and play with my hair. I went to look up again, but she persisted that I keep looking down and play with my hair.
She then told me to turn around, and when I did Josh was on one knee!
Our photographer did such an amazing job catching all of our raw emotions! I am beyond excited to marry the man I call my best friend!
