How We Met
Blake and I met in our high school Spanish class. Our friendship bloomed quickly because of our mutual friends. We spent our junior and senior years of high school dating each other and cheering on one another as each other’s biggest fans. Our relationship continued after graduating from high school in 2015! I went off to pursue my dream of dancing for a D1 collegiate dance team and he followed his hockey dreams. One year of our relationship was spent as long distance. After that year, he moved to Missoula, Montana to join me at the University Of Montana.
How They Asked
The morning of February 23rd, I woke up and started preparing for the biggest rivalry college basketball game in Montana! University of Montana vs. Montana State University is a much-anticipated game that always has a sold-out arena. I am captain of the UM dance team so I awoke feeling extra anxious about our performances during the media timeouts and halftime. Blake would occasionally peak in as I was getting ready to see if I needed anything and wanted me to check his outfit! He offered to give me a ride to the game. I gladly accepted! He dropped me off an hour before the game with my team. Little did I know, Blake had been planning with my coach and best friend for over a MONTH to propose at this very game!
My entire team met with Blake the Friday before the game for an extra practice without me knowing. Before we took the court for our first media timeout of the game, I turned to my best friend Claire and expressed an extra nervous feeling that was taking over me. She said it was probably because there were over 7,000 people in the arena, but I think I was feeling all of their nervous vibes. The music started as normal! I was ready to own this dance. Our music started sounding very unfamiliar. All of a sudden I panicked thinking our music got messed up! As dancers we are trained for this. I looked out of the corner of my eye to see what everyone else was doing. I just tried to catch on not knowing that what they were doing was completely choreographed.
As I turned I saw Blake walking up the middle of my girls and the stadium was roaring as the song Marry You by Bruno Mars took over the speakers. I was in complete SHOCK! He got down on one knee in front of a sold-out stadium, told me he wanted to spend the rest of his life with me, and put a gorgeous ring on my finger! Embracing with my team, coach, and Blake who put this all together was overwhelming. I looked to find my family who came down to congratulate us. We then looked up in the crowd to see his whole family standing, cheering us on. The support we had from our families, my team, coach, and griz nation was immeasurable. I feel so lucky to get to marry the man of my dreams. This moment is one I will never forget.
