How We Met
The first week of my Junior year of High School, I was transferred into a Sports Marketing class where I was sat behind Grayson. We immediately hit it off in this class, and we would always partner up on group projects. I remember thinking that I loved talking to him and that he was really funny. One weekend a few weeks into the school year, we both were at a birthday party for a friend. Grayson and I spent the entire night talking and getting to know each other more than the 50 minutes that class allowed us to have. I left the party that night knowing that I had the biggest crush on him.
The next several months were spent with neither one of us really having the courage to tell the other how we felt. We would sit next to each other every day at lunch and would text every day after school. On Wednesday night while in the Upper Room, I decided that I wanted to put all the cards on the table. I sent this long message to him telling him how great I thought we would be together and that I liked him a whole lot. I waited and waited for a response, but I didn’t get one. I remember being frustrated and disappointed, thinking he didn’t have those feelings in return. The next day at school, I waited at the top of the stairs for him to get there so that I could make sure that he got my message. Anxiously waiting for him to get there, he comes in 2 minutes before the bell rang (Grayson style). He tells me that he was grounded from his phone and hadn’t received the message. I was so relieved! That night, we had a Student Council event that we both had to be at, so we were able to talk about our feelings. Luckily, he felt the same way about me.
We started dating on December 7th, 2013!
I am so thankful for all the growth and life changes that Grayson and I have been able to go through together. We always had the best time going to school dances together, seeing each other on the sidelines at football games, and spending most weekends together. We were both lucky enough to attend the University of Arkansas after high school where we experienced a lot of individual growth and growth together as a couple. Each chapter in our lives has brought us closer together and made us stronger for it. I’m so excited to start this new adventure of marriage with Grayson in a new city! People always ask me when I knew Grayson was “the one.” I have always said that I knew he would be the one that I would marry. There was just something that told me it was right, even during the hardest times in our relationship. I can’t believe the time is finally here!
How They Asked
Grayson and I have been dating for 7 years, and I had been anxiously waiting for a proposal for some time. After Grayson found out that he had been offered a job in St. Louis and would be moving there in August, we both knew that the timing was right- so I had some major suspicions that it was coming soon!
Grayson’s sweet mom gave us a trip to Denver, CO for Christmas so that we could visit his cousin and her husband, go skiing, and do some hiking. The whole trip I was wondering if he would propose, and there were plenty of moments during when I got so nervous because I thought it was going to happen. On the last day of the trip, Grayson and I went to Boulder, CO to hike and visit the town. We ended up hiking almost 6 miles! When we got to the top of our hike, we asked a lady to take our picture, and she asked “so how is this when he proposes?” We both awkwardly laughed, and I know Grayson’s heart had to have jumped a little because he was actually going to propose later that day… not on this hike.
After our hike, we head to Pearl Street in Boulder to have lunch and shop around a bit. Grayson started to act a little weird about timing while we were shopping. We didn’t find much of anything that we wanted to buy, so I was suggesting that we go ahead and go to the lookout we had talked about going to. He kept telling me that he wanted to keep shopping, which really isn’t like him. He was so adamant about leaving at 3:00. We stopped at an ice cream shop even though we were so full from lunch, and Grayson makes us sit down to eat the ice cream. 3:00 finally rolls around, and we are ready to get to the lookout. We park the car and head up to the lookout where you can see all of the mountains on one side and all of the city of Boulder and Denver on the other.
There is a photographer standing there with a camera and asked if we would like our picture taken. We say Yes!, and the rest is honestly a blur. Grayson got down on one knee and asked me to be his wife!!
I couldn’t believe that Grayson had all this planned out for us and that he hired a photographer to capture this special moment. We did a mini session with the photographer where we got to celebrate this new chapter in our lives. I’m so glad they were able to capture the happiest moment for us! Grayson had also planned a special dinner that night at Shanahan’s in Denver, and we had the best time, just us two, getting to talk about the future and the love that we have for one another.
I’m so thankful to Grayson that he took so much time and effort into making this a special night for the two of us. He put a lot of thought into what makes us “us,” and how to adequately demonstrate who we are as a couple in this big moment. I just love Grayson Morrow so much, and I cannot wait to be his wife!!
