How We Met
It was the middle of my sophomore year in college when Michael moved in with our neighbors next door. One of my roommates knew our neighbors from back home so we hung out quite often. So when Michael moved in he was the mysterious cute transfer from Baylor. One night my roommates and I had a few friends over to watch a football game.
I walked down stairs and noticed Michael in the living room. It didn’t take long for him to follow me into the kitchen and attempted to strike up a conversation. My ditzy self couldn’t come up with a lot to say except “You’re funny! What’s your name?” He must have fell for my charm because the next few days he used every excuse to stop by and see me.
We had an instant connection it was like we had known each other for years. After the first week I met him he told me he thought I was his soul mate! We began to fall for each other. We had been dating for a few months before a dark day in September came.
Michael was on the way to the store when he was in a horrible car accident. It was a difficult time for us and on our relationship. But God had a plan for Michael and I. He was released from the hospital just a few days later and we began a journey of healing.
We learned to love, we learned to cherish, and we learned about each other. I wouldn’t change anything about our story, from the love and laughter to all the hardships we faced I would do it all again for Michael, my soul mate.
how they asked
It was the perfect secret, he had asked my Father for my hand in marriage just a month before a planned girls trip to California was booked. A spa gets away at the beautiful Cal-A-Vie Health Spa with Michaels Mom, sister, and my two soon to be sister in laws.
We were pampered with massages, spa treatments, and incredible food. On the last evening of our stay a cooking class and elegant dinner was planned. I wanted to get to the class early because I was dying to get a muffin recipe from the head chef himself.
Michael’s sister told me if we left early before everyone else then we would have enough time to sweet talk to chef into passing along that recipe. Little did I know there would sadly be no encounter with the chef but a moment so much sweeter.
The driver took an unfamiliar turn onto a Kabul stone drive way that lead all the way to the top of a hill. Once we arrived I stepped out to find an incredible French Provençal- inspired chatue surrounded by endless valleys of vineyards and lavender fields.
I didn’t even notice the car disappear until I found a trail of roses leading to the garden. That’s where I saw the most handsome man smiling and patiently waiting for me.
My heart dropped, I felt like I was going to faint but I was so excited to see Michael! Thankfully he grabbed my hand and led me under a gazebo surrounded by flowers. He spoke such sweet words about our journey together, our love for each other, and our love for Jesus. Then he got down on one knee and asked me to be his wife!
Nothing could have made this moment more perfect!
But it wasn’t over yet! He walked me inside this beautiful home straight to the back patio for a private dinner.
A beautiful table covered in pink and white roses sat over looking the valley.
That’s when I lost it. Hiding behind a pillar with tears in there eyes was my family! Michael had secretly arranged for my parents and sister to travel over a thousand miles to celebrate this moment with us!
My heart was so full! What a dream it had been! The most beautiful place surrounded by the ones I love most!
And to think just two years ago on September 27, 2014 Michael was released from the hospital and we started a new journey of healing in our lives. Now on this day September 27, 2016 we begin another new journey, a journey of our life together.
