Bailey and Stuart

Engagement Proposal Ideas in Loch Ness, Scotland

How We Met

Stuart and I met in 2011 when I was a junior in high school and he was a freshman in college. We had been Facebook friends for some time due to our mutual friends but had never met in person. We would talk on Facebook occasionally and I, of course, being the high schooler talking to an older, much cooler guy, tried to play it cooler and not let it on how much I liked him. Over the course of a year, we started talking more and realized how much we had in common. By this time, I had just started my senior year of high school and we were talking constantly. I was sitting in the third period, I was a teacher’s aide, and he FINALLY asked me out to a movie at 9 pm on a school night! Fortunately, my parents said I could go and our movie date went incredibly well. The next day, October 2, 2012, I texted Stuart asking if we were officially dating now, and he replied: “Stuart and Bailey, officially boyfriend and girlfriend.” And with that very dorky text, we started dating.

How They Asked

Since Stuart and I had been dating so long, he saw me graduate High School, get my Bachelor’s degree, and now 7 years after we started dating, he saw me earn my Master’s degree. It was a big moment for both of us and we decided to celebrate by going on a two-week-long trip to Scotland. I meticulously planned the trip and Stuart was along for the ride. But I was most excited for our trip up to Loch Ness, is a fan of all things paranormal, and little did I know, Stuart was excited too, but for an entirely different reason. We spent all day driving up through Northern Scotland and the scenery was breathtaking, we couldn’t wait to get out and explore.

When we finally made it to Fort Augustus, we disembarked and headed to the shores of Loch Ness. While I was busy trying to capture the Loch Ness monster on film, Stuart was preparing with the ring in hand. Just as soon as I thought I saw the monster and picked up my camera, I heard Stuart call my name. I turned around to find Stuart down on his knee saying “Will you marry me?” or, that’s what I assumed he said. I was crying too hard to hear! With only Stuart and the Loch Ness monster around to hear it, I shouted “YES!” through all the happy tears. After 7 years together and 5,000 miles from home, we’re officially engaged.
