How We Met
David and I met in his mom’s classroom sophomore year of high school, in 2015. At the time, his mom was teaching biology and she sat us together with a customized seating chart (thanks Heather ;p). David was super shy and quiet, and I was super goofy and chatty. From a young age, I knew I wanted to marry a man who loved the Lord. I fell in love with David because of his character and passion for Christ. We have been together for five years leading up to the engagement.
How They Asked
Due to the craziness of the coronavirus, David had to change his plans on how he was going to propose to me. Of course, I had no clue what he was planning (he told me these details after the fact). Basically in March, we were forced to leave campus and live at home for the remainder of the semester and all of the summer. We’ve done long distance before, so it wasn’t going to phase us. After our finals, I knew I needed to still go back to campus to move my stuff out. We found this a perfect opportunity to hang out before the large chunk of long-distance over the summer.
After I flew back to campus, David and my friends planned a surprise 21st birthday party for me in Dallas, TX. We had such a fun weekend with everyone, especially since we were quarantined for the past month and a half. Once the party was over, David and I drove down to my parent’s home in ATX to spend time with just the two of us. We made plans to leave early in the morning so we could go to the winery with my family that afternoon. When we got to Austin, we freshened up and headed towards the winery. My parents were acting like they were going to celebrate my 21st birthday, but I had my suspicions (especially since my best friends wanted to get my nails done the day prior).
When we got there, David was super cute and nervous. He said, “let’s go look at the lake Bailey.” I knew it was about to go down. We walked over to a stairwell that led to a terrace on the lake. I was just the two of us, and he handed me a letter. We were both in tears reading this together and remembering our prayers for this moment. Once I finished reading, David got down on one knee and asked me if I wanted to be his wife… my answer? YES! YES! YES! It was such a beautiful moment. We have been waiting for this day for so long and it was finally here! I’m going to be a Mrs. Golden, and I’m going to be able to serve the Lord with this man forever!
After the proposal, my family was waiting at the top of the cliff for us to take more pictures and celebrate this moment. It was the sweetest. There were also beautiful vineyards in the surrounding area. We were able to sip some yummy hill country wine and have some cute pictures for the memories. Beyond blessed for how thoughtful, loving, and kind this man is. This day was unforgettable.
I can’t wait to see what the Lord has in store for us…
