How We Met
Sebastian and I met at a middle school trivia meet back in 2005 when we were in 7th grade. In between rounds, a group of friends and I were walking past his group, and a friend of his came over and said, “Hey, my friend thinks you’re cute. You should talk to him.” From then on, we were middle school boyfriend and girlfriend and then friends later on through high school and college. We kept in touch with each other until after freshman year of college, due to busy schedules and our own relationships at the time.
Fast forward to 2015, when the gaming app TriviaCrack was popular. After 5 years of not talking to him, Sebastian requested a game against me, and we played about 9 games until he asked me on our first date. It felt like we picked up right where we left off all of those years ago. On our second date, we happened to run into the guy that introduced us 10 years ago, and he said, “Never in a million years did I think I’d see you two together again.” 3 months later, Sebastian and I moved in together.
how they asked
Every Thursday, we go to a local bar with some friends and play trivia. Each week there is a different theme, and on July 14, the theme was “Weddings,” complete with wedding movies, songs, traditions, famous churches, etc. Half way through the game, I kept telling Sebastian, “I think someone is gonna propose tonight. It’s weird that this is such an easy theme.” He played along and asked me to pick out couples in the bar that I thought would be getting engaged that night. I didn’t think anything of it that all my friends were there, as he asked them to start showing up to trivia weeks before so I wouldn’t think anything of it when the time came to propose. Everyone in the bar was in on it. After the bonus round, he asked me to come to the bar with him. I still had no idea. He hugged me and held my hands and said, “I made a mistake 10 years ago letting you go.” And next thing I knew, he was down on one knee with the most beautiful ring asking me to marry him. Everyone was cheering and camera flashes were going off all around us. Of course I said yes!
It’s funny to think after all these years, playing trivia would bring Sebastian and I together, this time for life. What a couple of nerds :)
