How We Met

Noah and I (Aubree) met in September of 2012 at the beginning of our freshman year of college at California Baptist University. I was sitting on the porch of my “cottage” (the cutest freshman housing, ever) doing homework one night when Noah came up and started talking to me. I had not seen or met him before this night, but it turns out he had noticed me and was wanting to talk to me. After some coercing from his roommates, Noah decided to approach me and I am oh so thankful that he did. We talked for hours on that porch; about our families, friends, hobbies, you name it, we probably talked about it. I had never in my life had a more natural and enjoyable conversation. We spent the next few weeks getting to know each other, and on November 3, 2012 after a huge homecoming event at CBU, Noah asked me to be his girlfriend.

how they asked

For the past 10 or so years, Noah’s family has had a tradition of going camping at Montaña de Oro State Park in Morro Bay, CA for Thanksgiving. This year the tradition continued and I joined the trip for the third time since Noah and I began dating. The trip is always full of family, friends, and lots of wonderful memories. A few years ago, on the first trip I went with them, we took photos on the beach with the family and Noah and I got some great couple photos on horse back. When packing for the trip, Noah told me that we were going to be taking photos again and that I needed to make sure I brought a nice outfit for that day. Looking back at it, this totally should’ve been a hint to me, but I thought all was normal. The day after Thanksgiving, November 25, 2016, we all woke up and got ready to take photos, or so I thought. Noah’s little sisters and I put our makeup on together, I even curled one of his sister’s hair. All was going as expected in my mind. In mid afternoon we drove to Sandspit Beach just down the road from our campsite and headed down to the shore to take photos. Once everyone arrived, some by car, others on horseback, we got ready to take photos.

Noah and I were up first, and so we walked toward the ocean so that his mom could take our photos. As we got to our spot, he grabbed my hands and turned to face me; in that moment, it all finally clicked, and I knew what was going on! He dropped down on one knee, and asked me to marry him!

I *of course* said yes and there was an eruption of cheers from Noah’s family as well as a group of spectators on the beach who happened to walk by. We turn to everyone and we begin to walk towards them. I hug Noah’s mom and she points my attention out in the distance; coming down the sand dunes are my Mom and Dad! I had no idea they were there, and it made the whole day even better. We all gather and take tons of family photos and my parents told me they were going to hang out for the evening, yay! We head back to camp and I was so excited to show off my new bling to the other families that we were camping with.

As we pull into camp, it was just about time to eat, so everyone walked into a large tented area and I am once again hit with another surprise planned by my lovely fiancé. More of my family is there! I burst into tears, for the third time I might add, and give hugs to the nearly 30 people who are all gathered in a beautifully decorated tent (thanks to the hard work of my future in-laws) filled with candles, floral arrangements, champagne, hand carved wooden signs, and SO much more. Clearly the planning for this occasion had gone on for a while! We spent all evening celebrating our engagement with so many loved ones and it was a perfect beginning to the joining of our two families.
