How We Met
Josh and I met about two and a half years ago in July 2018. Our meeting was definitely what some would consider as “fate”, which really makes it all the better in my book!
I have a horse named Dakota, who has been with me for going on 15 years and she is the absolute light of my life. Every five weeks she needs her hooves trimmed and I had recently lost my farrier to an accident that put him out of work for months. Desperate to find someone in my area, I reached out to a well-known farrier and secured him for a few appointments. On the second appointment, a truck that I did not recognize rolled down the barn driveway and out popped Josh. He explained that my scheduled farrier (who I found out later is actually his stepdad) had an emergency to take care of and that he had sent Josh in his place. I was skeptical at first; who was this guy? Horse people are notoriously only trusting of people they already know! I reluctantly let Josh start working on Dakota, while I watched like a hawk to make sure she was comfortable with the new situation.
Fast forward about 45 minutes later and we had struck up a casual conversation and I felt more at ease. Enough to at least now notice that he was pretty cute (even with all the dirt and horsehair on him!). He recommended a product for Dakota’s hooves, handed me his card, and said to call or text him if I had any questions. Josh left shortly after and I couldn’t stop that nagging feeling that I should text him. But what could I say to start a conversation?
The next morning, I had the bright idea to ask a question about the product he recommended and keep the conversation casual to see if there was an interest on his side as well. From the moment I sent that initial text, we didn’t stop talking. We met up a few days later for dinner, which also happened to be Josh’s birthday, and have been together ever since! The past few years have been filled with laughter, travel, and a whole lot of love for each other!
How They Asked
Josh and I were planning our first overseas trip to Ireland for roughly a year. We worked hard, saved money, and did a ton of research on what we wanted to do while we were there. It was going to be eight days of pure bliss! We made it to the Rock of Cashel, Blarney Castle & Gardens, and the Cork City Gaol.
One of the remaining days, we were scheduled to visit the famed Cliffs of Moher. It was windy and cold on the day we were supposed to visit, but we decided to make a go of it anyway. There were not many people in the park; visiting Ireland in November allowed for lower crowds and some amazing views!
Josh and I decided to do some hiking while we were there and walked along a very muddy trail. I have a tendency to “play it safe” and was nervous to walk too close to the edge of the cliffs. Josh is the more adventurous one; looking over the edge of a cliff never bothered him!
After a bit of exploring, we found ourselves alone on the side of a cliff. Josh was fiddling with his phone and trying to set it up to take a picture (which I was protesting because we had just taken one a few minutes prior). He insisted that we get one in that spot and finally had it ready to go. When we got in position, he gave me a few quick kisses and started to talk. He said he was so glad that I “came out of my shell” and was willing to do adventurous things with him and that it was his turn to do something special for me! Josh got down on one knee (hovering over a puddle really – quite impressive) and proposed in one of the most magical spots in Ireland. I, of course, said “Yes!” and was so over the moon with excitement. We spent the rest of our vacation happier than ever!
