how they asked
TJ and I had a week long trip planned to New England to visit his family where he is from. We knew we were going to visit NYC and stay with our good friends in Brooklyn but didn’t really have clear plans for the day. (Or so I thought). We took the train from Connecticut to NYC and stopped to see the tree at Rockefeller Center, then headed towards Washington Square Park. I used to live on West 4th and Sullivan, right across from the park, so I always enjoy visiting when we’re in town. It was a cloudy day and the park was fairly empty. After walking around for a while we decided to get lunch. Before we left, he said, “Let’s get a pic for my mom”. I started walking towards the arch and while I did, he started the video on his phone, handed it to a stranger and said, “please record us, I’m about to propose to my girlfriend”. The next thing I know, he’s reaching into his pocket and getting down on one knee. After the proposal, a lovely woman came up to us and let us know she was a wedding photographer and asked if we wanted some photos taken. I don’t remember answering since I was in such a daze- but TJ said yes and it was the icing on the cake. Not only did she take photos of us while he was proposing, but she got some absolutely stunning photos of us, in one of my favorite places, engaged to the love of my life. We didn’t have a hired photographer, so having actual photos of us as he proposed is more than I could have asked for.
