How We Met
In 2011 I moved to Hoboken from my parents house in Central Jersey. It was my first time living alone and away from my friends and family since college. My best friend’s cousin Jenna had also just moved to Hoboken as well and we quickly became close. We were both single and in search of fun places to go out. Through word of mouth we found out the best place in town to go was a little place called Green Rock. We were immediately hooked and would frequent this bar on most weekends. Overtime we got to know some of the bartenders. Some of the time the bartenders would give out free shots and each time this one bartender would ask me to come the bar and give me a shot. My friend Jenna would always say he would single me out because he liked me, but I always thought he treated everyone that way and I was nothing special. I thought he was cute but I never wanted anyone to know how I really felt. The day after Halloween that year, a few friends and I decided on doing a Sunday Funday and watching the football games around town. My friend and I decided to venture to Green Rock hoping that cute bartender would be there. To our surprise he was working and there was no one in the bar. We sat down at the end of the bar and found out the cute bartenders name was Niko. We spent hours laughing and talking to him. At one point he told me that he had a crush on me and noticed me come in from time to time. Jenna was right the whole time! I was so happy to hear him say that. We spent the whole next day together and I can speak for both of us and say that we knew from that moment we were meant for each other. Ever since that day we haven’t left each others side. We are perfect for each other and I wouldn’t want any other person by my side for the last 4 years.
how they asked
On the Sunday before Christmas this year, it was just like any other Sunday. Niko’s brother had slept over our apartment and we all woke up and decided to go to brunch. We went to one of my favorite places, Turning Point. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary, because we love going to brunch. After brunch Niko’s brother went to his car and we went back to the apartment. As we were walking up I still didn’t think anything was weird. As he opens the door I see a table in the middle of the room with a bouquet of roses, a bunch of pictures and a sign that says ‘Will you be my Boo Boo forever?’. I was in complete shock. We walked in and he stood me in front of the table and got down on one knee. I couldn’t even hear what he was saying I couldn’t believe it was happening at that moment.
You can anticipate how you will react and feel when the day would come that he would propose, but in all honesty you can never anticipate it. The happiness was better than I imagined. His sister is a photographer and was hiding in the bedroom and came out to capture the moment. Being able to look back and relive that moment over and over again is amazing. My favorite part of the whole thing was the pictures he set up of us and our family’s. My brother had passed away over a year ago and he had a picture of all of us from a trip we had went on. Not having him there was extremely tough for us but seeing his picture reminded me that he is watching us and he was there that day. The whole day was perfect and I am so grateful to call him mine forever.
