How We Met
Michael and I have been the best of friends since the 9th grade. We both grew up in a small farm town called Los Banos located in California. We were the best of friends in High School and shared just about everything with one another. I would go to him with boy troubles, good news, just about anything and everything good or bad that happened in my life. When High School was over, I moved to Fresno, California where I went to college at Fresno State and he moved to Chico, California and went to Chico State. Throughout college we would still talk often and even visited each other’s schools to catch up and still keep in touch. After college we would still occasionally hang out and run into each other in Los Banos when we were both home for holidays or visiting each other’s families.
We both dated and had other relationships until one day he came to visit me in Fresno and told me that he had feelings for me that went deeper than our friendship. I was feeling the same for him but was extremely nervous only because we were so close and such good friends. I remember speaking to my mom about it and she told me to just try it out, that I would never know what could possibly come of this if I didn’t try. She was SO RIGHT. Michael officially asked me to be his girlfriend on July 26th, 2013 and the rest is history. People are not kidding when they say to, “Date your best friend!” This relationship has been the best relationship I have ever been in! I have never been happier and just thinking about becoming his wife makes me the happiest woman ever!
how they asked
We recently got a puppy about 6 weeks ago named Rogan and now that he has all of his shots we have been so exited to take him out into the “real world” so our 4 year anniversary landed on a Wednesday and Michael was out of town for work so he told me that we would celebrate on the upcoming Saturday. We woke up that morning (July 29th) and we packed up the Jeep and strapped Rogan in and headed to Avila Beach which is about two hours from where we live. (Fresno, CA) They have a great pet friendly beach so Rogan was loving life when we got there. We strolled the beach and played in the ocean and walked barefoot on the sand. Shortly after we had a fabulous lunch and just sat outside talking and enjoying the ocean view.
Michael then asked me to take a walk out on the pier after lunch. We went and walked on the pier over the ocean and he told me that he was going to ask a lady to take our photo. I didn’t think anything of it because I am always asking people to take our picture….(I love pictures) so he asked a lady to take our photo but really he was asking her to record on his Iphone that he was about to propose. So as this lady approaches us, I’m fixing my hair getting ready for what I thought was going to be a picture and he gets down on one knee. I was in complete shock! He told me that he had loved me ever since High School and that I meant the world to him and asked if I would be his wife.
I said YES over and over and cried and cried! The best part about this, is that we will have this on video for the rest of our lives! He thought everything through… it was perfect and so special. I asked him if anyone knew that he was going to propose and he told me only my dad because he had driven to go see him earlier in the week to ask for his blessing. Michael is honestly my best friend and I cannot wait to be his wife! It was the most magical day, the most magical proposal and everything I had ever dreamt of and more! He is my soulmate and I am so proud and blessed to call him mine. :)
