How We Met
We met in high school, 8 years ago, believe it or not! I was a competitive dancer and we lived in neighboring counties and had never met. When I was 17 and he was 18, my dance studio had guys come in (usually boyfriends or close friends) to dance with us in our recital for fun after competition season was over. I had no boyfriend to speak of, and luckily another girl brought plenty of boys with her. We got paired up, exchanged some sarcastic jokes, and the rest is history!
How They Asked
My now fiance moved off to college 4.5 hours away just 3 months after we started dating, and I started at UNC the following Fall. Somehow, we made it work through undergrad.. and grad school.. and being long-distance the ENTIRE 7.5 years. It wasn’t always easy, but it was worth it. I’ve been very impatient waiting for him to propose for about 2 years. Flash forward to December 2018, the day before my 25th birthday and 5 months until I finish PT school. We were going on a trip to the mountains with some friends of ours and I had the whole weekend planned (hey, it was my birthday after all)! It truly was a perfect weekend. We spent the day going to breweries and wineries on Saturday, playing games, eating. I thought it would happen that day, but it poured rain the entire day.
Oh well, maybe next weekend, I thought, because surely he wouldn’t propose just hours before we had to go our separate ways again? We left for Grandfather Mountain around 10 am that Sunday morning and it was so foggy. We chose a hike and spent the next hour climbing over rocks, looking at waterfalls, and avoiding all the mud.
We came to the “views” area and had to climb up a rope and then a steep ladder on a slippery rock to get to the top. My best friend came up behind us to “take a picture.” I was shaking at the top from the heights and how hard the wind was blowing, but the view was amazing! Next thing I know, my boyfriend of 7.5 years dropped to one knee and asked me to be his wife. In an instant, he became my fiance. My eyes may have been watering from the wind, but it was hands down the best moment EVER!
