How We Met
Kyle and I met through Twitter. It was 2014 and I was a sophomore in high school. I had seen one of my old friend’s tweet at Kyle, so I went and looked at his profile. He had graduated high school the year before and lived just under an hour away from me. I thought he was pretty cute, so I sent him a DM about something he had written in his bio, and we talked every day after that!
How They Asked
In March of 2019, we had planned a trip to Hawaii to stay with his aunt, where she was working at the time. This trip fell over my spring break and coincidentally, our five-year anniversary as well. I hoped he was going to propose because it couldn’t have been a better time for it! However, every day and its adventures went by without a proposal, including our anniversary. We were down to the last night we were spending in Oahu, so I had accepted that it wasn’t going to happen, but that was fine because we had had such an incredible trip!
Our last night there we went to the Ko Olina Lagoons. There were four of them, and Kyle was being super picky about which one we wanted to be at because he didn’t want the beach to be too busy. While we were walking around trying to decide the best one, we saw a couple that just got married on the beach. I jokingly nudged Kyle and said, “That’ll never be us!” Little did I know, only a few hours later he would be proposing to me there at sunset, asking me the same way he asked me to be his girlfriend five years prior – “Out of all the fish in the sea, will you marry me?”
