How We Met
Jeff and I met through a mutual friend, Lauren. She and Jeff worked together and she I and went to high school together. Even though we hadn’t spoken in years and merely kept in touch via Facebook, something about my posts stuck out to Lauren when she talked to Jeff about the type of woman he was interested in dating.
He had lived in Louisiana for three years and had not dated in the time he lived here, while I meanwhile had such a terrible dating history I had given up on the whole idea of finding that one person to spend my life with. She connected us on Facebook and we spent three hours that night on the phone talking. We spoke for hours each night after work for three days before our first date and haven’t looked back since.
how they asked
Jeff and I traveled to his home state of North Carolina for a weekend away to visit his family and attend his aunt’s wedding. We were gifted nights at the historic Grove Park Inn in Asheville for the weekend by his mom so I could visit Asheville, the town Jeff lived in when he got of the Navy. We spent the weekend just the two of us touring the city and having an amazing time! Jeff arranged for us to visit the Biltmore on Palm Sunday after church so I could check off a bucket list item of picnicking in a field of flowers. We weren’t able to picnic but it was fine because my flower-loving self was too excited to care! The peonies had just begun to bloom and there were 40,000 tulips in full bloom to behold! Jeff and I arrived to the Biltmore and went straight for the tulip garden. I began to take photos of everything on my phone and he suggested that we ask a couple in the garden to take our photo.
I remember saying out loud when I saw the gentleman with his large camera with the zoom lens that he takes his photography seriously! Unbeknownst to me, that man was a photographer who is a dear friend of his family who had been hired to capture our proposal. As soon as we were in place to pose for the photo, Jeff got down on one knee, told me he loved me, and asked me to marry him. The entire time, all I could do was laugh and cry. After the happiest moment of my life so far, I was introduced to Kathe and Roger (the family friends who caught it all on camera) who then took a photo shoot with us around the Biltmore for us to treasure forever. My bucket list visit was more magical than I ever could have imagined!
