How We Met
We met on a dating app. Yes, you read that right, a dating app. After years of dating the wrong people, getting ourselves into the wrong relationships, going on the wrong Tinder, Hinge and Bumble dates, the right one finally came along, all because of God… and Tinder, too.
After meeting on Tinder, we texted back and forth for two weeks before meeting in person. On August 2, 2018, we had our first date. Grant wanted to take me to dinner and a candle making spot in Nashville; I turned that idea down thinking it could be too “romantic.” Instead, I suggested dinner at my favorite restaurant (Taco Mamacita) followed by hitting balls at Top Golf. I worked there at the time and figured if Grant was a total creep (like the rest of the guys I had gone on dates with) I would at least be surrounded by my friends and fellow coworkers. I was nervous, and apparently Grant was too. Especially considering he arrived at the restaurant before I did and then realized he forgot his wallet at the house. Being the gentleman Grant is, he went all the way back to get it just to pay for my dinner. After our game of golf, neither of us wanted the night to end and were excited for what was to come.
The next night, he asked to meet my parents. THE NEXT NIGHT! He knew how important family was to me and wanted to make an impression by asking to meet the parents; boy did he ever.
We both expressed that we had no interest in anyone else and decided to make it official. On the 23rd of August, Grant asked me to be his girlfriend and #Grashley was born.
How They Asked
Fast forward to the proposal: Due to COVID, Grant and I had been quarantining and hadn’t gone anywhere fancy in months. Grant suggested finally going to a nice restaurant for dinner on July 3rd, so we both got dressed up to head out for a nice evening. When I arrived at his apartment, I thought I was just going to pick him up. He texted me while I was in the parking lot, saying he wasn’t quite ready yet and to just come in. When I did, I got the biggest surprise of my life. Grant’s family drove into Nashville from Arkansas and my family tricked me into thinking they had other plans. When he opened up the door to let me in, they were all standing inside surrounded by candles and twinkle lights.
He sat me on a stool in the middle of all of our loved ones, got down on one knee, professed his love, and asked me to marry him. Since August 23, 2018, there has been nothing but Kroger runs, hikes, pool days, The Office marathons, Target trips, road trips, murder mysteries, smiles, excitement, joy, laughter and love. Grant and I look forward to doing life together. We can’t wait to be surrounded by our friends and family on our wedding day, and to exchange vows in the presence of God.
