How We Met
Growing up, Adam and I lived in the same neighborhood. It wasn’t until 1999, when we started 3rd grade together at Benhaven Elementary School, that we officially met on the school bus. We started and ended our school days together, waiting at the bus stop and riding to and from school Monday through Friday.
It was your typical school boy & girl relationship: pick on each other on the bus by day and chat on AOL Instant Messenger for hours by night. After Elementary School, we ended up moving on to separate Middle and High Schools – ironically, the two schools were crosstown rivals! Fast forward to March 2014, Adam was a groomsman in his best friends wedding and I was invited to the wedding as a friend of the Bride. It was the night of their wedding that we “met again.” He stared at me A LOT throughout the day & I finally made the first move asked him to dance—the rest is history!
how they asked
Growing up, I spent every summer visiting my grandparents in Florida. One of my absolute favorite places to visit there is Sebastian Inlet State Park. During the Summer of 2015, Adam and I vacationed in Florida and I took him to Sebastian. He fell in love with it just like I did as a kid. We fished off the jetty, swam, and even got up close and personal with the manatees that come into the “cove.”
Two years later during Summer 2017, we were able to plan a vacation to Florida again, which of course meant a trip to Sebastian Inlet! When we got there, Adam headed straight to fish a.k.a calm his nerves. A couple hours later he asked me if I wanted to get someone to take a picture of us. I agreed and asked a “random” lady if she would kindly take our picture. Little did I know, Adam had already told her earlier what he was going to do. She was in on the plan and started snapping away!
Once we got a couple of pictures, I thanked her and as I walked towards her to get my camera, Adam asked me “What if we take a picture like this?” Confused as to what he meant, I turned around to find him on one knee with a gorgeous diamond ring in his hands. I was shocked, to say the least! The first words out of my mouth were “OH MY GOSH!” Shaky voice and all, he asked “Ashley, will you marry me?” Of course, I said YES! To my favorite boy, at my favorite place, in my favorite outfit!
