Ashleigh and Dalton
How We Met
Dalton and I met in 2008 at Xtreme Fun Center, a laser tag arena, in the Tampa Bay area, which was each of our’s first job. Both of us were born and raised in that area. He hates that I tell people this but he wasn’t too fond of me when we first met. He says it’s because he was a 17-year-old boy. Either way, we became friends and over the years our friendship became even stronger. We were there for each other through a lot of things. Celebrated each other’s birthdays, graduations and other milestones – but it was always friendship and nothing else. Well, until that changed. Fast forward to late 2017 (almost 10 years later) and while we were hanging out, Dalton asked if he could kiss me. We’ve been together ever since. He’s seen me at my worst and my best and loves me regardless. That’s why I didn’t even hesitate when he asked me to marry him. Fine, I actually had already started planning our wedding before he asked. But, again, he knows who I am as a person and loves me as I am. I’m one lucky bride and cannot wait to become his wife.
How They Asked
I knew the proposal was coming. I was very anxious and also was just at the point in the relationship where I knew he was the one and I wanted to start our life together as soon as possible. With that said, Dalton was incredibly patient and loving during the process. He knows me better than anyone else does and did an amazing proposal – he even made sure my nails were done beforehand. It was a Wednesday, and I woke up to find my partner not home. Very unusual for 7 in the morning on a workday.
I went to the bathroom and found a note, explaining that Dalton would be sending me notes throughout the day. The note also had my first name, Ashleigh, and then the letter W (Ashleigh W). Dalton’s last name is Wilson, so you can see where this is going. The second note was left in my car, with a sweet message – the note being addressed to “Ashleigh Wi”. I was so excited, I barely focused on my drive to work. Around lunchtime, a certain someone dropped off lunch with another note. It spelled out “Ashleigh Wil”. The lunch wasn’t an ordinary lunch though. It was from a local pizzeria called Lazy Moon aka my favorite.
He got me a pizza to share with my coworkers. After that, honestly, I couldn’t really focus on work either. I left early and when I got back to our apartment, I found my fourth note, “Ashleigh Wils”. Along with it, Dalton had built a new coffee table for our living room, set the note on top and also laid out his favorite dress of mine for me to wear. I got ready, which included a FaceTime call to my best friend to make sure I looked “proposal” ready. I received a text with a clue of where I could find note number five, for “Ashleigh Wilso”. It said to go outside. He was on one knee, with a letterboard that said: “Will you marry me?” After saying yes, he gave me the final card with Ashleigh Wilson. I took lots of pictures, cried and called all my friends and family.
We celebrated our engagement by going to Rocco’s Tacos in Orlando, which was the place Dalton took me on our first date. Our wedding is set for January 11, 2020. And I cannot wait to marry the love of my life.
