Kati and Arthur
How We Met: Arthur and I met in our Sophomore year of high school. We had the same history class and I sat two seats in front of him. I thought he looked smart so I tried to copy off of him. He eventually found out my screen-name (that was the popular time of AIM and T-Mobile Sidekicks) through the guy who sat in between us. We started talking and he became one of my closest guy friends. A year later he asked me to be his girlfriend and I am glad we took that time to get to know each other and become friends first!
how they asked: On May 26, 2014, Arthur and I were heading to Lake George, NY for a relaxing few days away from the city. On the way there Arthur pulled over and go out of the car to take a phone call while I was in the passenger seat wondering why he couldn’t answer the call with me being there. When he returned, after much probing, he told me that he was planning a surprise to take us up in a hot air balloon, weather accordingly.
For the next three days I was ecstatic! Going on a hot air balloon ride had always been on my bucket list. On our last day in Lake George, we met with the couple who owned “Ballooning Adventures,” Mike and Lisa, at five in the morning. Due to intense fog, we couldn’t fly that morning even though we were checking out of our hotel in a few hours. I could see the disappointment in Arthur’s face so I convinced him to stay until 6 PM to try our luck with the evening flight instead.
After checking out, we spent the day in Sarasota Springs and then met Mike and Lisa again in the evening. This time, everything worked out perfectly. Once we were in the air watching the sun set among the mountains, our pilot Mike took our camera and said, “Let’s take a video!” Me, being a little camera shy, said, “A video? We can’t just take a few pictures?” Mike started recording and Arthur took my hands and told me, “Our past five years together have been wonderful. Every single moment from the very first kiss, to this moment right now.
And I know that our life together is going to be amazing. I want to spend every day with you for the rest of my life.” And in that moment I knew he was about to propose and of course came the waterworks. Although it was pretty small in the gondola, he was still able to get down on one knee and ask for my hand in marriage. I was instantly transported to cloud nine! I could NOT believe it!
I somehow choked out a small, “yes!” The proposal was the most romantic and intimate moment that I have always dreamed of and I love telling our story over and over again.
