How We Met
On August 25, 2008, I walked into my high school Spanish class on the first day of school. It was at this moment when Ronnie said he thought to himself “she has potential”. Over the next few years, we became good friends and upon entering my freshman year of college, he asked me out on our first official date.
How They Asked
Fast forward to Summer 2018, we took a trip to Maui. We did many amazing and touristy activities but our favorite was driving up to the mountains at 2 am in order to catch the sunrise at Haleakala National Park. It was incredibly breathtaking. I didn’t know it at the time, but as we watched the sun peak over the horizon, Ronnie thought to himself again “I will bring her back here to propose”.
Over the next two years, we tried planning on going back to Hawaii. Life got in the way and either it wasn’t the right time, too expensive, or our hotel was booked. Until one day he woke me up after midnight with excitement explaining he had just found and booked the long-awaited trip.
We were off! The day of the proposal, he was chill as a cucumber. We decided to switch it up and watch the sunset this time around. So we drove up to the mountains to see if we could find a less crowded area for the overlook.
After reminiscing about our previous visit a couple of summers ago, Ronnie grabbed my hand and lead me to a ledge that had an exceptional view of the sun and clouds. It was here where he poured out his feelings for me. He spoke about every important date and milestone that we achieved together. Reminding me that it all started with a couple of high school friends. He got down on one knee and asked me the long-awaited question. For the first time in our 8 year relationship, I was speechless. My body simply allowed me to nod my head and let tears stream down my face.
