Gary’s family is from South Africa and he grew up going back often to visit family. Gary and I had been dating for about 3 years when I got invited to travel with him and his family to South Africa to meet his extended family. After a few days in Cape Town we all headed to Babylonstoren, in wine county. The first day we got there Gary had to “work” and needed to go to the business center to send some clients some documents….or so I thought. I was resting when Gary texted me and asked if I wanted to go on a little adventure before dinner. It was a little chilly outside but it sounded fun. I got dressed for dinner and met him in the lobby. One of the staff members was waiting and told us he was taking us somewhere special. He drove us to this gorgeous lake area on the property. It was getting colder and started to drizzle. The staff member said he had to leave and would be back in about 10 minutes to bring us back to the lobby. I urged him to stay (as I was now shivering). I even got a little annoyed when Gary said, “ok we will see you in a bit.” Boy am I glad I didn’t go back with the staff member. Gary and I walked out into the middle of the lake. Gary got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. After about a minute Gary’s family jumped out of the bushes across the lake and cheered.
