How We Met
We met online! Matt was living in Orange County, CA at the time and my job was in Santa Barbara CA. We both were pretty hesitant about the online dating world, but we had friends who gave us a little shove and decided to try it out. I noticed Matt’s profile right away. We had a lot in common and I was really impressed with his profile. The best part was that most of his pictures were of him and his family. He was the first and only guy I messaged. Matt was living in Alabama for a short time when we met because he was training with USA Team Handball and working remotely in land acquisition for a Southern California home builder.
I was working at UC Santa Barbara. We talked on the phone for weeks before our first date and I remember thinking this was something really special. Matt flew back to Orange County for a work event and I was also going to be in the area for my job so we decided to meet for our first date and we knew it was right. We dated long-distance for a little over a year and than I got an amazing job in Orange County. We have been together for more than two years! Falling in love with each other was the easiest thing we have ever done. We are best friends and we can’t wait to start our lives together as husband and wife!
how they asked
My parents were flying in from Minnesota to spend a week with Matt and I. I was so excited for them to come because I hadn’t seen them since the holidays. Family is so important to Matt and I and we were happy that my parents were going to meet Matt’s family. Saturday morning started off pretty normal with a workout at the gym and breakfast. Matt said we needed to go to Crystal Cove State Beach in Newport Beach to check out a location for our friends’ engagement photos. I was confused why we had to go there that morning, but I didn’t think to much about it. We parked and walked the trail to the beach. It was gorgeous! As we were walking the beach, Matt started saying so many amazing things to me about our future and how much he loved me.
I didn’t think anything was about to happen, but as I was about to turn around he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him! I said yes! While we were celebrating, I heard camera clicks and realized it was Matt’s sister Michelle taking photos of the engagement.
It was an amazing moment. Matt planned everything for weeks. He even planned a small engagement party after the proposal at his family’s beach house with some of our family and friends. It was such a special day and I am so thankful we had people we love there to be a part of it.
